Back in March, Andrew and our nephews (thanks Drew and Adam!) built this stand and we’re excited to have it for you at a new location.

Andrew's been splitting hives this week, trying to stay ahead of swarms. Swipe to see:

1️⃣ A queen cell — this is where the magic starts! When Andrew splits a hive, he makes sure the new colony has a queen cell so they can raise their own queen and thrive on their own.
2️⃣ Andrew carrying a new hive box to one of our apiaries. Every split becomes its own little colony looking for a fresh start!
3️⃣ A row of nucleus hive boxes (nucs!) — these compact boxes are like starter homes for new bee colonies. They have everything a young colony needs: frames of brood, honey, pollen, and of course, a queen (or queen cell).

Splitting hives does two big things: it helps prevent swarming (bees' natural instinct to divide when a colony gets too big) AND it grows our overall bee population. More bees = more pollination = more honey! 🍯

It's a lot of work, but watching a new colony build itself from scratch never gets old.
