Let’s do this

I had the pleasure of hosting Ages and Ages and Shane Leonard while they were in town for their Sh*tty Barn Sessions gig this weekend ,and we got to make a little music in the barn. I had the temerity to assert the first rule of barn music: no songs allowed.

Of course, the barn makes it easy to do so. It’s a space that draws the creativity out of you before you’ve even had a chance to commit to the courage required to sustain it. Have no fear, it’s just that easy.

Anyway, here’s me rambling for a bit, and then the start of a truly excellent barn rendition of Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold”. We eventually got centered on the phrase “I want to live”.

A song circle and campfire, at the same time? Why has nobody thought of this before.

Look. It’s gruesome, but it’s true. I eat meat, and most of the time, that’s a pretty abstract fact. But once a year, I roast the pig for the Wyoming Township Pig Roast, and spend a whole day looking a dead animal in the face.

So, do you want to take a look?

We will be getting started Friday night and roasting all day Saturday, until the party at 4pm. Drop by the farm and watch the pig spin for a little bit.

And if you’d like to help out and take the coveted 2-4am slot, your heroism awaits.
