This is a particularly crazy week for us. We processed 267 birds yesterday (thank you Em and the Honey Field Farm crew for coming down to do such amazing work!) today Bob and I will be doing our normal chores and cutting and packaging all of those birds. Tonight we will catch 320 more birds and bring them to the USDA processor and I won’t be home until Wednesday night. It’s a little wild and totally worth it! But…. We are still parents and have the coolest kid ever so sometimes you just need to temper the insanity with a To Do list that looks a bit like this. see you this afternoon Sugar Bob’s Finest Kind | Vermont Maple Syrup

We had a juvenile hawk get one of our ladies yesterday. Now we’re on a mission to find that hawk a new home. Rosie and I made this scarecrow… or scare hawk as the case may be and so far, it seems to be fooling at least one of us!

Jake tested and approved dried chicken feet are back in stock! Come by to fill up your puppy treat jar on Saturday Norwich, VT Farmers’ Market For those of you who don’t know Jake, he is our eyeless guard dog. He loves chicken feet and they’re a wonderful way to keep his mind occupied while cleaning up any plaque on his teeth and massaging his gums. Who wants to see more of this amazing farm dog?!?!

OH NO!!! Sometimes we set pasture fences up ahead of electrifying them. This makes our work load a bit more manageable on busy days and helps us stay a bit more sane. This time it didn’t work out how we wanted it to. We had a visitor decide they didn’t need to walk around the fence when they’re tough enough to just chew right through it! This porcupine ( or pokey guy as Rosie calls them) got away with just a few missing quills and our fence will be patched. Here are the joys of farming on pasture in the wild of Chester!
