Scapes are the stem of the flower which comes up out of the garlic bulb... Scapes are a very short season item, maybe two weeks...you can freeze them for future use...

Ogreland Ranch will be at the Stayton Farmers Market today. While I will not have any award winning garlic (they are all still growing), I will be taking orders for OGRE RAWrrr HONEY and for pigs (butcher date is in late October early November. $4.50 per lb. hanging weight, goal hanging weight is 200 lbs. Last years average weight was 189.5 lbs.

This body is telling me I am not as young as I think I am so things are wearing out. The non-bionic knee is letting me know its not happy and since I stepped wrong the right hip is now telling me its not happy either...Just as I was getting ready to start big planting time...Boaz is wiling to help me but he likes to dig holes where HE wants too and not where I need them to be...

I have planted the following types of Garlic:
Mt. Hood,
Spanish Rojas
Music
Bavarian
Russian Red
Chesnok.

In the spring I will be harvesting the GARLIC SCAPES, the stem which grows up from the bulb, these are very delicious and are used in making pesto, sauces, stir fry's, and many other dishes... These are a very short season item maybe three weeks at the most. You can freeze them for later use as well...
I highly recommend getting some as they will add a garlic flavor to any dish you put them in.

This is the week the garlic is getting planted...had some issues but got some things done, goat house is up (temp roof) ...
