Late to the party but here’s two we had born on Friday!
First up is a fullblood bull calf. Presented full breech/tail first but him and his dam are just fine.
Second born that evening is a suspected double copy naturalean heifer. She’s pretty darn cute! She was born unassisted.

Marties brother is doing great! He got to stay with mom and is up and nursing. Martie is a little on the weaker side and has been since birth. She takes the bottle fabulously and had her first real good stand and wander around after she drank her lunch bottle.

Surprise! We had a set of M/F twins born this evening. First calf presented upside down but came out smoothly with a little adjusting. We noted his size and palpated for a twin, but didn’t feel anything within reach. About 30 minutes later she lays down and starts pushing again 😬 then came baby #2, who presented perfectly and came out with ease.

So far everyone is doing well. Just keeping our fingers crossed it stays that way 🤞

This little guy is a naturalean and double copy by parentage. He looks like a pied but just you wait 😂 in a few months he’ll likely be unrecognizable. Heartleys calves LOVE to brindle out.

I've been doing some more research into the history about our Piedmontese Cattle...it's so interesting to read about the origin and how they got their name. It's neat to know that Piedmont is a region in Italy (I already knew that) but even more interesting that the Italian word "fassun" means "well-built" or "large thigh", and describes their double-muscling. I was surprised to learn that the heifers are the main meat production source.😯
