In addition to the farm/ranch we also custom harvest forages for cattlemen around the area as well as in SW Missouri. Our Angus seedstock operation is focused on breeding cattle to add to the bottom line of the commercial cow/calf producer. Our breeding philosophy revolves around the longevity of the mama cow and all off the attributes required to remain in production for as long as she is profita
ble. In short, she is required to be fertile, have sound structure, exhibit maternal excellence with her calf from birth, maintain her condition on primarily dry forages, and produce a calf that has the ability to perform at any level that is genetically possible. We started our Registered Angus herd, like many do, with one or two cows; then over time grew that herd. We were primarily a commercial producer that raised/purchased replacement quality heifers then would market them as bred heifers or pairs. Over time the registered herd out grew the other pieces of the cattle operation. The bred heifer program has phased out for a time and the commercial cows were implemented into the registered sector as recipient cows in our Embryo Transfer program. We began with a single registered cow as a small project in 1999 and are currently running nearly 400 cows to date. We have built our program to a level of consistency by using the technologies of Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer. We’ve traveled down several avenues of marketing along the way before hosting our own annual production sale. We’ve marketing bulls through several bull tests over the years; Kansas Bull Test, Nebraska Bull Test, Colby Bull Test, and Midland Bull Test. We feel that we have learned something from each experience to implement either into our sale or breeding program. We’ve also sold cattle in consignment sales and sold bulls and female in conjunction with BJ Angus (Manhattan, Kansas) for 5 years before preparing our own sale. We also have sold many bulls by private treaty from that ranch. In 2019, we hosted our Inaugural Bull Sale at Heartland Regional Stockyards in Plainville, Ks. As time has passed we are now preparing to host our 5th Annual Production Sale on March 13, 2023 at Heartland Regional Stockyards in Plainville.
