After a restless daytime hunger strike, yesterday evening we finally convinced Huckleberry to eat & take his pain meds. He had a better night and spent most of the morning comfortably laying outside in the sunshine. He’s beginning to bear more weight & we bought a better wound cover that doesn’t need to be removed every time he goes potty. He still needs constant supervision so we’re working in shifts, I’m thankful for such a patient and kind husband in times like this! When I’m able, I’m thinking about doing a little auction fundraiser to help raise the remaining money for Huck’s surgery. If you’ve got a business or hobby or just have something you’d like to donate please let us know! Thank you all for your well wishes and donations so far, as a small mostly self funded nonprofit every bit counts AND it’s a tax write off! 💰❤️

‼️KENNEL STRESSED‼️Solano County Animal shelter has six dogs that are REALLY struggling with shelter life. We would love to see any one of these dogs in a home or rescue but better yet all of them. Can you help share? All dogs are currently available for adoption as well as rescue but they can only take kennel stress for so long.

These are our harder to place dogs due to their kennel presence/behavior. Any adopters that choose to take one of these lucky pups home please be prepared to allow time to decompress and training paired with exercise. Adopt and save a life🐾❤️

Huckleberry is home and resting after his sedated imaging at the veterinarians office today. Unfortunately it confirmed what we feared, Huck has a torn ACL and will need TPLO surgery. Not an easy or inexpensive surgery with an especially difficult recovery for a giant breed working dog. Our vet quoted us just under $6k for surgery not counting follow up imaging. We still aren’t sure they can get us in, local Northern California friends who’ve done this surgery with their dog please send me your vet recommendations, bonus if they might offer a nonprofit discount.
I’m super sad for Huck, even injured it’s been hard to get him to rest. 💙

Last night as my husband was feeding the upper animals he saw a kitten jump down behind one of the hay bins. We brought some cat food up, not sure what to expect but knowing we had to catch it before the coyotes did. At first kitty was growling and hissing while it ate but with time it came up to me and accepted some pets. (Videos in my stories) To be honest the wild way it was behaving I joked that what if kitty had rabies and I’d finally met my demise. 😝 Luckily kitty didn’t bite and decided I was in fact a friend. Steve walked her down to the house in a carrier and she’s now safe in a warm kennel with flea meds and a full belly. She’s skin and bones with fleas, hips and ribs poking through and barely weighs just over 3 lbs. The barn we found her is over a mile from the main road or any other houses so I’m not even sure where she could have come from. She’s not chipped so we’ll be searching for her owners and filing a found report with the shelter. So glad we caught her and she’s safe and that Steve was home to catch it on video or he’d never have believed my crazy story!
