Wanted to shout out some local organizations that are doing the thing every day:
Our Neighbor’s Pantry
Porter County Aging & Community Services
Hope Alliance of NWI
Recovery Connection
Three20 Recovery
I love that several of the people who run these orgs continued the trend. If you’re not already, follow these local organizations doing good in NWI.
Genuine people doing genuinely good things for NWI all in different ways
Our Neighbor’s Pantry focuses on food too, but in a way that stocks the pantries, keeps the kids fed during school breaks, and their innovative Neighbor Markets that help make fresh local food accessible to everyone.
PCACS often gives away free food and supplies. They organize fun community events. And they have a Medical Loan Closet so that people don’t have to go without costly medical devices. They’ll assist you with transportation, ramps, and even energy costs.
Hope Alliance of NWI just seems to be everywhere all the time! Their main work is harm reduction and education, but you’ll see them out there providing all kinds of resources. Cooling centers, neighbor check-ins for our unhoused and hotel populations, and support groups, to name just a few.
Recovery Connection provides services to those living with addiction. They give community, hope, and resources that people need to get and stay sober. They use science backed methods to support people’s sobriety for the long haul.
Three20 Recovery focuses on providing innovative sober programs and activities to the Region. A program I really loved was a mom’s cooking class. Participants learned how to cook an easy, healthy meal and then were sent home with all the ingredients needed to recreate it for their families. Completely free.
