Isn’t she beautiful 🥹💛
Oooooh girl we’re going to do so much good together

Thank you again Living Hope Community Church for agreeing to house our new freezer and Dennis Benelli’s Pizzeria for negotiating an unbelievable deal for us. And Albert's Diamond Jewelers who made the donation that helped us realize this goal in record time!

When I was little, Mom had a store in our front room. She’d sell card making supplies and spend time making cards with and for our neighbors.
Man was it special to get one of her cards.

Another piece of comfort we’d like to add to our meals is greeting cards. We’re asking the community for a donation so that we get a large variation. You can make them (preferred) or purchase them. These can be for multiple situations: from a simple hello to condolences on a recent loss. There are many reasons people receive our meals 💛

You can drop off donations of greeting cards to the Feed the Region meal any Thursday between 5pm and 8:30.

BIG NEWS!
We have officially accepted Santa Delivers AYR’s offer to become our fiscal sponsor 💛

What this means for the expansion of Feed the Region:
💛Chef Steph has accepted a volunteer position as the Program Leader of the Last Resort Food Program.
💛We can now offer you tax- free donations through the fiscal sponsorship. One great way to do this is through our new Zeffy link: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/help-us-feed-the-region

💛Traci Donnelly has accepted a volunteer position as Support Team Lead. She will be able to help our volunteers navigate and get in contact with our neighbors as well as expand the neighbors in our program.
💛Once Feed the Region has completed our 501(C)(3), the fiscal sponsorship will dissolve but we’ll continue a strong partnership to serve our NWI neighbors.

Josh Johnson said it best:

“You get older and then one day you look around, and you’re like “uh oh, Oh no” cause nobody told you.
No body told you that adults, they’re just kids who lived. Like, they were kids and then they just stayed alive and somebody had to do the jobs. And so now people do the jobs. It’s a never ending cycle of people looking like they have it together.”

There’s no magic here. All the people who make Feed the Region and Santa Delivers AYR work to deliver comfort and aid straight to the people in NWI are just people themselves. Just realized one day that free will means we can follow our dreams of giving back to the community that raised us.

We are growing! We are building a coalition of joy, comfort, and people who take “Love Thy Neighbor” seriously. If you are the type of person who can get behind the phrase, “I went through it so I want to make sure no one else does,” you belong here.

Please reach out to any of us through our DMs to find out how you can help us Feed the Region and make sure Santa Delivers All Year Round for our fellow Region Rats.

For now, let’s review our goals:
🙂‍↕️All six counties in NWI (Lake, Porter, Jasper, LaPorte, Newton, and Starke) will have a Feed the Region Hub and Year-Round Elves to deliver aid, comfort, and check-ins to any neighbor in need in The Region.
🙌 Both missions will be fully funded and able to give gainful employment to people who love this community and need JOBS.
🏆We will have a network of neighbors making NWI Stronger, Safer, and Kinder.
🥳 We will grow in partnership with like-minded people, local businesses, and organizations who love this community as much as we do.
🪩 We will throw events that focus on our Local Art, Music, Food, and Entertainment scene to allow fellowship between neighbors while raising money for our community. There is so much talent in Northwest IN, it’s time to highlight it!

We are so proud of how the Region has come out strong for our neighbors after the storm. Over 2500 bellies were filled at the Portage Strong event yesterday.

We are so happy to hear that in more neighborhoods were restored in the last 24 hours. More of our people woke up with lights, A/C, and working refrigeration in the two highest percentage power outage Cities, Gary and Lake Station. Thank you to the blue collar workers that have shown up for us every single day non-stop since the storms hit on August 11th. You are always welcome at our table. Please buy them a coffee, give them a sincere thank you, and ask them how you can help their family or neighborhood recover.

Power is just the start. People lost everything. Homes, cars, clothing, furniture, all stock piles of resources like food, toiletries, kitchen utilities, and cleaning supplies. The grid will come back up because we have strong work ethic in NWI, but don’t forget there’s a lot more than that to help people get back on their feet.

Pharoah is amazing. When I talked to him this morning to let him know we haven’t been able to reach an older person living alone that we’ve been trying to get to, I said, “it’s just one plate, it’s not a big delivery but it sure is an important one”. He came out to the event, helped us where he could and asked to be stocked up so he could bless more people in the area when he got there.
That he’s now agreed to serve the community of Gary like this in partnership with us is amazing. He has been able to expand our list in Gary so that we are able to keep people on the list who experience food insecurity or are home bound so that we can check in with them every week until they tell us they’re back on their feet.

When you are volunteering with us, your safety is our number one priority. Having someone who already knows the communities we’re serving helps us know that they can navigate roads when they get unexpectedly detoured. Having neighbors who are already doing the thing out in the community helps break down barriers for those who don’t know us well enough yet when we show up to help.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped Feed the Region and Santa Delivers AYR with storm relief. And those who have signed on for the long haul while we grow into the Region.
