🇺🇸 Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate 250 years of courage, perseverance, innovation, and the enduring pursuit of liberty. As we reflect on our nation's history, we honor those who came before us, celebrate the communities that make America strong today, and look forward with hope to the future we continue to build together.

May this Independence Day be filled with gratitude, family, friendship, and pride in the freedoms we share.

Q: I’ve seen posts on social media by people selling meals that look delicious! What do I need to know before buying food made in someone’s home, backyard, or other uninspected location?

A: Social media outlets do not verify if a seller is operating legally or safely. It’s up to you to ask the right questions of the seller. SCDA can’t patrol the internet for illegal food vendors. You are putting your health at risk if you buy from an uninspected source any foods that require time or temperature control to be safe.
The seller may not have adequate knowledge or equipment to produce these foods. The food could be contaminated after cooking by pets, children, or others that can be in an uninspected kitchen.

FAQ: I want to cook and sell food by the side of the road. I can't afford to buy or build a fully enclosed mobile truck or trailer. I just want to make some extra money by using my pull-behind cooker or a grill to set up under a tent. Can I do this?

Answer: State law requires that most food sold to the public come from either a Retail Food Establishment or a registered Wholesale Food Manufacturer. Foods that require time or temperature control to be safely prepared or stored require either a permit or a license.
