There’s something pretty special about seeing the cows back out on pasture for the first time each season. 🐮🌱

The grass is tall, green, and growing. The cows are happy to roam, graze fresh forage, and enjoy being out where they belong. Days like this remind us why we do what we do.

At the same time, farming is always an exercise in faith. We went from one of the wettest Aprils on record to hearing predictions of a dry summer. Dry weather makes it harder for pastures to regrow, hay fields to produce, and crops to thrive. Too much rain creates challenges. Too little rain creates challenges.

So, like farmers have done for generations, we keep working, keep planning, and keep hoping for balance. A little sunshine, a little rain, and faith that Mother Nature finds her middle ground.

For today, though, we’re simply grateful to watch the cows enjoying fresh grass and another season on pasture. 💚

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for this country. 🇺🇸

We don’t take for granted the opportunity to work this land, care for these animals, raise our kids here, and live freely in this beautiful country. That freedom came at a cost paid by generations of servicemen and women and their families. Today, we remember those who gave everything so we could live this life & may we never forget freedom isn’t free.

From our family at Granite Ridge Farm — thank you. ❤️🤍💙

A little non-farm post today… but one that connects deeply to the values we believe in on the farm.

As parents, we just want to give a big shoutout to all the coaches, teachers, advisors, volunteers, and school staff who pour so much time into kids.

Brock recently finished track & field season, and he’s also involved in band and Lighthouse. Watching him be part of different teams, groups, and activities reminds us how lucky we are that our area schools offer so many opportunities for kids to get involved, stay connected, and grow.

We truly believe connection matters. Whether it’s sports, music, agriculture, scouts, clubs, theater, or any activity that gives kids a place to belong… being involved teaches lessons far beyond the activity itself. It builds confidence, friendships, discipline, teamwork, communication skills, resilience, and community.

So thank you to the people creating those opportunities and showing up for young humans every single day. It matters. We appreciate you.

Brock is directly impacted at John Muir…the Track Coaches, Lighthouse Club Advisors, Band Teachers, teachers & staff…Thank you for the opportunities!

We hope littles & kids & teenagers choose to get involved in something. There are so many opportunities waiting for them — and belonging to a group & connections really do make a difference. 🤍

Some days we still look around and think… “How did our little dog treat idea turn into this?” 🐶

Truthfully, we had no idea where this dog treat adventure would end up when we started it. It was something we jumped into on a whim to help support all the farm bills. And since then… it’s been a whole lot of time, hustle, late nights, weekends, learning as we go, asking questions, making mistakes, trying again, and putting one foot in front of the other.

There’s been a lot of hard work behind these treats. And a whole lot of people helping us along the way.

A BIG SHOUT OUT to all the small businesses that choose to carry our dog treats and share them with their communities. Supporting small businesses supporting small farms… that means everything to us. Truly, without those stores believing in us, we couldn’t do this. We are incredibly thankful for the small business owners giving us the opportunity!

And to all the dogs and their humans who keep loving these treats — THANK YOU. Every bag purchased helps support our family farm and helps us continue doing what we love: farming, raising animals, and sharing the farm story.

We hope you know how deeply appreciative we are of every share, purchase, kind word, and recommendation. We do a little happy dance with every bag purchased!

From our family farm to you & your dogs… thank you. 🐾 ❤️

Restocked!!

Local farm Granite Ridge Farm makes these mouth watering treats. Legit

Our dogs see these bags of treats and their mouths start watering.

Ingredients they already have on hand with their beef cattle.

With respect to their own Labrador, Brody, they wanted to make treats that are not filled with fillers, preservatives and artificial stuff.

Also, being resourceful with what they have left over from their beef and chicken. No waste from the animals.

All put to use.

We sold out of these quickly last time

I had a double order this time to be sure your dogs get their paws on some!

Check out their page I linked above.

Read more about their story.

As always, support your farmers!

See you soon.

Well… Poppy has a new roommate. Meet Piper. 🤍🐮

Piper is a twin, and sadly her mom only bonded with the twin bull calf and abandoned her. We could have tried penning the mom and twins together to encourage bonding with both calves, but based on how she was already behaving, we decided against it.

So now Piper has officially joined the bottle baby crew here at Granite Ridge Farm alongside Poppy.

Farm fact of the day: when cattle twins are born — one male and one female — the female is called a “freemartin.” In about 90% of cases, the female calf will be infertile because the twins share blood circulation through the placenta during pregnancy. This exposes the female calf to the male twin’s hormones and cells, which affects her reproductive development. Interestingly, the male twin is usually fertile and unaffected.

So while Piper won’t grow up to be a mama cow someday, she’ll still get all the love, snacks, and attention around here. And honestly… these bottle-fed calves tend to think they run the place anyway. 😂

Meet Poppy. 🤍 You may have noticed her in our stories!

She is our bottle fed baby—spunky, curious, and already full of personality.

Her start came with heartbreak. We lost her mom shortly after birth due to a prolapse. We didn’t catch it in time.

Losing an animal is hard. On the heart and financially. There’s no easy way around it… it just sucks.

We’re thankful Poppy is here. Now it’s morning and evening bottles and lots of extra attention—and she’s loving every bit of it.

The highs and lows of farm life… often in the very same moment.

The calves keep coming… and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

When the sun is shining and everything goes smoothly, it’s about as good as it gets. New life hitting the ground, moms doing their job, calves up and going… it’s a pretty incredible thing to witness.

But of course… it’s not like that every day.

The rain keeps making appearances, and with it comes a whole new set of challenges. Mud, wet ground, and long days (and nights) of keeping a close eye on everyone.

One thing we think about a lot this time of year—especially on these rainy days—is bonding. When a calf is born, that mom needs time to lick her calf clean and learn its scent. That’s how she knows it’s hers.

When it’s pouring rain, we hold our breath a little… hoping the mommas get the time before the rain washes that scent away.

It can be especially tricky with heifers—our first-time moms. They’re still figuring it all out…like what just came out of me and now what do I do… a little extra patience (and a closer watch from us). Sometimes we step in and feed the babies some colostrum from a bottle or pick them up and move them to drier ground or put a jacket on them.

We keep going. Checking pastures. Watching moms. Watching calves. Doing what needs to be done. Because this is farm life—beautiful, messy, unpredictable… and always worth it.
