Today was also delivery day 😊 so while Randy trekked to Ohio with the meat birds, I packed orders. Randy arrived home safe and sound and traded an empty van with empty chicken crates for a smaller van full of membership bags for our customers. While he delivers those, I’ll stay home and pick more produce and pack for Wednesday deliveries. We will sleep well tonight!!!

Loaded 250 meat birds in 30 minutes. Not too shabby! We had horrible losses this batch. It was definitely a huge hit to our farm, but we will persevere! We don’t celebrate until the birds arrive safely to the processor in Ohio!

Loading meat birds at 4am. What an exhausting task!

Randy and I took a break Saturday to visit our friends at the Fishers market, plus we needed to stock up on some essentials! The best kettle corn from infused vinegar from maple syrup from and Whoopie pies from Maple Run farms. Side note: maple syrup with fresh cream from our cows is the best coffee creamer ever! You will never settle for store bought creamer again!
It was so fun seeing our friends and we were a little sad remembering all of our faithful customers that we don’t see every week anymore. You’ll notice there was only one whoopie pie left…. I ate that for supper tonight πŸ˜‚

This is what mental fatigue looks likeπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ I had made yogurt and was sanitizing the muslin straining cloth. I put it on the stove to boil while I washed the milking supplies. I forgot to set the timer….. Randy and I sat at the table and drank a glass of milk…… I said goodnight and went to bed. Completely forgot the pan was on the stove on high temperature. Thankfully Randy was still in the kitchen for awhile and started smelling smoke, he rescued the pot after the muslin started to catch fire. I fully believe I need a caretaker most days. Mental fatigue is almost as bad as physical exhaustion. The bad thing, our summer has not even begun! And now I need to buy more muslin 😩

Oh the meat birds! The most challenging, exhausting, stressful animal on the farm. We are always thankful when a batch is successfully delivered to our processor.

Good ole Jim Tom! Protector of the flock 😊

The wet weather is at least good for the blueberries!
The crop doesn’t look as abundant as last year, but the plants are still trying to recover from a few years of drought.
