A different kind of harvest at Diemersdal. 🐑

While our vineyards are busy with spring growth, it is sheep-shearing time on another part of the farm.

There is much more to the process than simply removing the wool. Once the sheep have been shorn, the fleece is thrown open across the wool table, ready for sorting and classing. Here, experienced hands assess and separate the wool according to its characteristics and quality.

It is skilled, hands-on work, with every stage playing an important role in preparing the wool.

Although w**e is what Diemersdal is best known for, the Louw family's farming heritage extends far beyond the vineyards. Grapes, grain, cattle and sheep all form part of this working farm, where generations of agricultural knowledge continue to be put into practice.

These photographs offer a glimpse of the people and processes behind another side of Diemersdal, and the many different stories that make up life on the farm.

🇮🇹 A Postcard from Piedmont | W**emaker’s Dinner with Thys Louw

From the vineyards of Northern Italy to the tables of Diemersdal, we invite you to join us for a special evening inspired by Thys Louw’s travels through Piedmont.

Renowned for its exceptional w**es and rich culinary heritage, Piedmont has provided plenty of inspiration for Chef Martin de K**k, who has created a menu celebrating the traditional flavours of the region.

Guests can look forward to Italian favourites such as Vitello tonnato, handmade Agnolotti del Plin with lamb ragout and sage, Barolo risotto with crisp pancetta, and a decadent Gianduja mousse to finish.

The evening will unfold around a festive long table, where dishes inspired by Northern Italy will be enjoyed alongside a selection of fine Italian w**es and Diemersdal favourites, including our newly released Prospect Barbera.

With Thys joining us for the evening, we look forward to sharing the food, w**es and stories that inspired this special occasion.

A closer look at what is happening in our vineyards. 🌱

With spring growth well underway at Diemersdal, the vines are developing new shoots and leaves, and the first inflorescences are visible. These tiny clusters of flower buds will eventually develop into the grape bunches harvested later in the season.

For Gerrit, Tiaan and our vineyard team, this is an important time for trellis and canopy management.

As the shoots grow, they are positioned and managed along the trellis system to maintain a balanced canopy. This allows for better airflow, helps regulate sunlight exposure and reduces excessive shading around the developing fruit.

The aim is not simply to encourage growth, but to manage it carefully, creating favourable conditions for healthy vines and balanced fruit development.

A fascinating stage in the vineyard, with plenty happening long before the grapes begin to ripen.

Celebrating Pinotage Day at Diemersdal. 🍷🇿🇦

Pinotage has long been an important part of Diemersdal's w**emaking story, from our current releases to the older vintages carefully kept in our Vinothèque.

It is a proudly South African cultivar with plenty of character and versatility. Some prefer the freshness and vibrant fruit of a younger Pinotage, while others enjoy discovering how the w**e develops with a few years of bottle age.

This weekend, 10–11 October, we are opening three special bottles from the 2020 vintage:

As the days get warmer, the Tasting Room naturally moves outdoors - shaded tables, a glass of w**e, something to share and time to enjoy the farm.

Join us for a relaxed tasting or a glass of w**e, with platters available to share. The Tasting Room does not take reservations and seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
