For centuries, humans have used food as a life source beyond sustenance. Food connects us – to the land, to the water, to the sky, to each other. One century of industrialised food has severed these bonds. In a leafy town within the Sunshine Coast hinterland there is a movement burgeoning. A recognition of this lost connection and a desire to rekindle, rebuild and reconnect to the land, to the water, to the sky, to each other.

If these walls could talk…

A lovely customer recently brought in this fabulous Mapleton Tavern brochure from the 1980s, which got us chatting about the pubs long history.

Originally opening as the Ocean View Hotel in 1910, our old pub has been welcoming people up the mountain for well over a century. In its early days, it was even apparently advertised as the “coolest, best resort in Queensland.”

By the 80s, the promise was “solid, old-style hospitality” and “an Aussie country welcome at an Aussie country pub.”

Of course, it hasn’t all been quite so fancy. Like any good country pub, Mapleton has had its fair share of characters, colourful stories and, by all accounts, a few rough-and-tumble years along the way.

More than a century of b**rs, yarns, celebrations and everything in between.

Festival favourites and one of Australia’s most celebrated folk acts, The Hillbilly Goats are bringing their foot-stomping, harmony-rich mountain music to Mapleton Public House.

Crowned People’s Choice Australian Folk Band of the Year in 2022, Golden Fiddle recipients and four-time Golden Guitar finalists, the trio have built a reputation for their infectious live performances and deep love of traditional Appalachian music.

With an extraordinary collection of instruments, rich harmonies and plenty of storytelling, The Hillbilly Goats take audiences on a musical journey back to the roots of American folk and bluegrass.

We’re delighted to welcome Ashley Huntington, founder of Tasmania’s cult-favourite Two Metre Tall, to Mapleton Public House for an intimate lunch celebrating wild fermentation, exceptional produce and a shared respect for the land.

From his farm in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley, Ash has spent decades challenging conventions in brewing and c***r making, producing extraordinary farmhouse ales and c***rs through natural fermentation and a deep connection to the land.

This is a rare opportunity to meet one of Australia’s most interesting and uncompromising producers, hear the stories behind his craft and taste a selection of Two Metre Tall’s remarkable creations.

Introducing Dining with the Stars, a new monthly experience at Mapleton Public House, launching this November in partnership with the Mapleton Astronomical Society.

Join us for dinner, order à la carte as usual, then wander next door to the Mapleton Observatory for a guided journey through the night sky.

With the Sunshine Coast Hinterland now recognised as a Dark Sky Reserve, it’s a pretty special way to spend an intimate evening in Mapleton (with just eight places available)

Beyond thrilled to announce that Pachyman is coming back to Mapleton Pub on Saturday, 2 Jan.

If you were there last time, you’ll know why we’re excited. If you missed it, here’s your chance to catch him!

Pachyman (Pachy García) is a Puerto Rico-born, Los Angeles-based producer and musician working in the lineage of dub reggae. Drawing from vintage production techniques and the methodologies of genre masters like King Tubby and The Scientist, Pachyman constructs expansive soundscapes that showcase an intuitive understanding of repetition, space, and sonic architecture.

Originally trained in reggae and experimental rock bands in Puerto Rico, Pachyman’s artistic evolution reflects a diverse musical palette spanning synth-pop, dub techno, vaporwave, chillwave, soul-jazz, Kosmische musik, and krautrock. His work synthesizes these influences while remaining rooted in dub reggae’s core philosophy, creating a distinctive sound that balances experimental edges with dancefloor-driven energy.

There’s a lot that happens before one of Mads’ cocktails makes it to the bar.

She picks raddiccio fresh from The Falls Farm to create a house-made amaro. Cara Cara and Seville oranges are picked and turned into a cheong with nasturtiums. Things are steeped, fermented, strained, tasted and tweaked (over weeks and weeks) before they end up in your glass… if she considers them good enough!

More like a work of art than anything… introducing the Seville + Nasturtium Sour and the Raddiccio Amaro. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes by the amazing Mads McIntosh to bring you these delicious drops. 💫

You are summoned to Ye Olde Mapleton Public House for a night of feasting, drinking, dancing and general medieval misbehaviour.

Entry is free.

Kings, queens, knights, witches, wenches, peasants, plague doctors and creatures of questionable origin are all welcome. Don thy finest medieval garb and join the rabble in the Main Bar for a night of music, merriment and behaviour unbecoming of respectable townsfolk.

But for those wishing to sin in considerably greater comfort, leave the peasants behind and take thy place in the Grand Hall from 6.30pm for a feast of rather indecent proportions.

When the final platter has been pillaged and thy belly can take no more, the doors of the Grand Hall shall open and thou shalt be released back amongst the common folk.

Eat. Drink. Dance. Repent.
