🧄 **How to Plant Garlic — Three Sisters Style**

It's almost garlic planting season on the Rock, and fall is the perfect time to get your bulbs in the ground! Here's the simple step-by-step:

**1. Pick your spot**
Garlic loves full sun and well-drained soil. If your ground stays soggy, consider raised beds.

**2. Break apart the bulbs**
Separate the individual cloves right before planting — leave the papery skin on. Choose the biggest, healthiest cloves for the best bulbs next summer.

**3. Plant pointy-side up**
Push each clove **3–4 inches deep**, pointy end up. Space them about **4–6 inches apart** for maximum size.

**4. Mulch for winter**
Cover with **3–4 inches of straw or mulched leaves**. This protects the cloves through the freeze-thaw cycles and keeps the soil from heaving.

**5. Wait for spring**
Garlic grows slowly through the cold, then takes off in spring. Remove mulch in early spring. Harvest scapes when they curl and harvest bulbs a few weeks later when the lower leaves start to brown.

What's the difference between culinary and planting garlic?

Great question, and it's one we hear a lot! Here's the most important thing to know: any of our garlic is perfect for eating, including our planting bulbs. There's no "bad" garlic at Three Sisters.

So what actually sets our planting garlic apart? It all comes down to how we select it. Throughout the growing season, we're out in the field assessing every plant. We watch how each one grows, looking for the strongest, healthiest, most vigorous plants. When harvest time comes around, we set those standout plants aside. Those are the ones we save for planting.

We replant what we need for our own next season and share the rest with the public. That means when you buy planting bulbs from us, you're getting garlic from our best-performing stock, the plants that proved themselves in the field.

We truly care about what we're providing to our customers. We want you growing our best, because when you grow well, that's a reflection on us, and we're proud of that. ❤️

To our amazing customers, friends, and neighbors,

It was a long winter, a slow start to spring, and a strange summer. Three Sisters has experienced its share of ups and downs this growing season, but as usual, we remain positive and keep moving forward.

We apologize for being a little quiet these past few months. It has been a busy season behind the scenes, with so much progress happening with land development on the farm, whenever the rain gives us a chance!

But we wanted you all to know that we are still here, still growing, and still working hard.

And the garlic certainly hasn't disappointed. Each year, our garlic crop seems to get stronger and better, and this year's harvest is one we're especially proud of.

Here are a few pictures from this year's harvest. Right now, the garlic is hanging and beginning the drying and curing process. We'll give it all the time it needs to cure properly before it's ready to head home with you.

Thank you to our customers, friends, and neighbors who continue to support Three Sisters, even when we're a little quiet. It means more to us than you know.

A little late posting this, but our 2025 garlic has officially been sold out for a few weeks now!
I am truly so grateful for the incredible support Three Sisters received from all of our lovely and loyal customers this past season. This was our first year selling garlic at this capacity, and I have been completely overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who chose to bring our garlic into their kitchens and gardens.
Thank you for supporting local. Thank you for supporting our little farm. It truly means so much.
We are already looking ahead and working toward an even better harvest for 2026! Stay tuned for updates on how the garlic is growing, along with news about our other harvests.
