Zinnias don't look like much until suddenly they outshine the flowers who have faded under the heat of the August sun. They live for hot days and thrive until the first hint of frost.

Also pictured is Gallardia (oddly enough, my first time planting it from seed). I am impressed with the show they've provided, though I don't think they'll last until frost. We'll see.

There was a moment this summer that I realized I will look back on these days as a mom with a young child as some of the best of my life. It was both a grateful and sorrowful feeling.

I'm thankful to have the opportunity to spend long summer days with my little one, but sad to know he won't be a young, curious boy forever.

I look forward to days when he is older and wiser, but never will it be quite the same as this summer.

After a week away visiting family in the Okanagan, we came home to find the garden flourishing.

With an empty fridge, we welcomed the bountiful backyard harvest to feed us for supper.

Parsley pesto with sweet peas on macaroni + salad greens with a miso chili oil dressing. Delish! 😋
