This page is unabashedly critical of major coffee chains encroaching on the traditional, local, charming hole-in-the-wall and "mom & pop" cafés, especially in cities with an already existing centuries old café tradition. While this page is mostly English, we post any interesting coffee related article in French, German and Hungarian.

Delightful Italian caffè bar downtown Montreal on Stanley street, just up the street from a Tim Hortons. Long line but advances quickly. Music a little loud inside but there is a terrace outside. It’s been here for 5 years now but this coffee snob only discovered it today. Support local cafes people!

Delightful espresso in Rosemont right near the Jean-Talon market. Also a dépanneur sells great coffee blends, and a great place to grab a quick brunch, sandwich etc. More places like this and no Dunkin Donuts please!

In the great café wasteland of the West Island of Montreal, nestled among the Starbucks and Tim Hortons, an oasis of Italian caffè. Also, a shout out to Tazza di Mattina café machine repair shop in Roxboro. They sell great Italians coffee beans too.
