Paradise Valley Produce

Paradise Valley Produce We are a small, certified organic mixed veggie farm located in beautiful Powell River, BC. Hello! We are Rachael and Dane Sherstad.

We are passionate about enjoying and taking good care of the natural world. Operating a small, organic farm is how we are turning this passion into a livelihood. Our aim is to grow top quality produce for our local community while being good stewards of the lan on which we rely. When we’re not working to grow delicious veggies we tend to be playing outdoors - trail running, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, climbing...

So many, too many, bunches of carrots. Greg's face says it all.
Carrots are involved to say it simply. They require patience, extensive w**d management and likely straight up w**ding, insect netting for preventative damage steps, and water, particular watering. This crop requires so much tending as we say. And the work has provided us with an exceptional crop.

New crop of beets have all germinated. Dane is tending the next beds of beets that we will begin harvesting from in the next couple weeks. The heavy and frequent rains defiantly helped with this crops germination. Provided challenges in many other aspects. And germinating direct seeded and newly transplanted crops is always a help with rain. Especially summer showers.

Sweet potatoes are blooming. This is another new crop for us. We are exciting about this crop and there is a lot of now until we dig the tubers out later this month.
What we can see right now, is the plants look healthy and are showing off some beautiful colour.

Somehow its already a week into August and we are looking forward to welcoming new crops for the season. Beets have been rocky this year due to slugs (who knew they liked devouring beet root!), tropea onion, this is a new sweet fresh onion variety for us and it's fantastic, plus jalapeños!

We had down pours and Syd was shielding the cucumber harvest, garlic harvest when we pulled the entire crop for the year on a smoking hot day, crops that have been coming in are cabbage and beets. Plus Runder staying close by always

This is Greg’s 5th season working with us and we are so grateful to have him be such a big part of the farm. Greg is Rockin' the Market Season at Sechelt Farmer and Artisan Market this year. He is also developing our outdoor mushroom cultivation on the farm. We hope Greg continues to work with us over the years and supports us to grow and evolve as a farm.
