Paradise Valley Produce

Paradise Valley Produce We are a small, certified organic mixed veggie farm located in beautiful Powell River, BC. Hello! We are Rachael and Dane Sherstad.

We are passionate about enjoying and taking good care of the natural world. Operating a small, organic farm is how we are turning this passion into a livelihood. Our aim is to grow top quality produce for our local community while being good stewards of the lan on which we rely. When we’re not working to grow delicious veggies we tend to be playing outdoors - trail running, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, climbing...

Meet Farm Team member Aurelia! πŸ‘‹

We asked what are the key factors of working on a Small Certified Organic Farm. Aurelia shared with us: "Here on the farm we witness so much life everyday from the birds in the trees, critters in the ground, to chatty laughter of our team members. Small organic farms allow for so much diversity: in the food we produce, in our surrounding biological ecosystems, and in our local food system. We have been shown the extradorinaiy beauty of this biodiversity and the impact it has on us, our farm and our community.

I also really love the people, the comminty and food! There are learnings every day and PVP fosters a welcoming and intentional environment."

This month is going to be full and our Farm team is crushing it so far! Sydney & Aurelia made friendship bracelets for us all. Such a special and kind way to start our morning meeting πŸ₯°

We then dove into our farm to-dos and that is managing heat. May has been hot, April was hot. This is all concerning and for us that work in Agriculture and for the crops. Shad cloths have been placed over tunnels to keep temperatures cooler.

Crop highlights early in summer are our overwintering sweet onions and lettuce mix growing beautifully.

🐝 The Mason Bees are busy buzzing with activity. This has been the most successful Mason Bee cocoon building I have seen yet. The bees have shown they prefer the reeds over the wooden blocks and have filled almost all of the avaliable reeds for incubating larva. Watch them at work!
