The 2nd ever rabbit show we attended is officially a wrap! 🐰
I am so pleased with the results and, even more importantly, the comments and feedback from the judges!
My single New Zealand entry had some awesome competition but still managed to squeeze out 1 BOS for the weekend! I’m pretty darn proud of this senior doe. She may not have been in prime coat, but she looked pretty good considering she raised 24 kits this year! The judges’ comments also validated some of my thoughts on the areas I need to improve, which is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for.
The Flemish Giants didn’t have much competition, but I was really happy with the feedback. I may have to change some of my previous herd plans to help improve the next generation.
Flemish Giant results:
• Junior Fawn Doe — 2× BOB, 2× BOS
• Junior Sandy Buck — 1× BOS, 1× BOB
• Junior Fawn Buck — 1× BOS, 1× BOB
AND THEN THE REX… 😳🐰
The Rex absolutely shocked the heck out of me!
A broken black junior doe that I honestly hadn’t even planned on entering took BOB × 3 and was even mentioned while on the table for BIS! 😳
A blue junior doe took BOB on Table 4 and also received a mention during BIS!
As last-minute entries on Sunday, I took two littermate black tri does. I was surprised and thrilled when they each placed 2nd and 3rd behind the broken black!
I also took a blue Brindle as an exhibition-only entry and was really pleased with her comments.
I entered two senior blue tri does and a black junior doe as well. While they did place, the feedback I received really just confirmed my thoughts on the areas I need to work on within the herd.
One thing I was really hoping to get out of this weekend was a clearer vision of who to cull… but apparently I need to be a little less harsh and give a few of these extras a chance. 😂
Going into the show, I was also hoping to focus more heavily on my solid-colored Rex and have fewer tris. After this weekend, though, it looks like I may already have a pretty decent foundation on the tri/brindle side of the herd. So… back to the drawing board! 😂
Overall, I’m walking away from this show with lots of encouragement, lots to think about, and *slightly* different idea of where I want to take the herd next!
And of course, a HUGE shoutout to the amazing rabbit community! Everyone is always so kind, helpful, encouraging, and willing to share knowledge. It makes this hobby so much more enjoyable! 😊🐰
