nstagram is really annoying me. It keeps not posting my captions. I clear the cache, etc. and it works for the first post, then reverts back to not posting my caption and I'll sometimes forget to copy and paste before I post and lose the caption, anyone else having this issue??

That's it, that's all folks. The summer crops are out, deep fall plantings in, and now I cross my toes it all gets to maturity for the CSA to go through to December 3 like I committed to in my eagerness last winter.

Some say that paperpotted plants have longer DTMs than hand transplants, especially in cooler weather, so considering I switched so much of my production to paperpot I might have been a bit ambitious committing to an early December CSA finish given the uncertainty paperpotting in fall for the first time. I do think things were a touch slower in the spring, but sometimes it's like "was that the paperpot or just the weather?". Probably won't really know until I get a few seasons of it under my belt so I can get better averages.

We shall see!

Cross fingers for sunny days and mild-ish overnight temperatures, with some rain overnight too to help with the drought conditions in the province. Too much to ask? Ha

Lots of goodies available for the last time this season. Get 'em while you can. We are going to miss you cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, peppers, etc.

It's the busiest week of the year for us.

Flipping summer beds for fall, squash harvest, CSA, and our farm-to-table dinner prep for Friday, and a fermentation workshop Sunday. It's a big one.

Thanks Ash for being a trooper in the rain today. Mountain Barn cinnamon buns are a viable bribery tool for the ultra heavy lifting days.

We now stock Quantum Farm pasture raised chicken, from Passmore. Currently in stock: thighs, drumsticks, wings, and whole chicken. Prices as marked on the items.

Plus the most delicious sweet Italian peppers, eggplant, greens, zucchini, cucumber and more.

The nights are getting crisp and it's only a matter of days/weeks before frost takes out the summer crops (that and having to flip the beds to transplant fall/winter crops), so make the most of it while you can!

Love waking up to feedback like this.

Huge shout out to Sandi from for her incredible flower bouquets from her micro flower farm here in Salmo.

Her bouquets are truly a feast for the eyes. Her arrangements have honestly changed my mind on flowers, I'm converted. I wish I had a photo of one, but we certainly do feature them as table decor for our dinners and they are amazing!

Give Sandi a follow and head to the Salmo Farmers Market on Thursdays to get your hands on a coveted bouquet (if you aren't on our CSA).

She should really make her flower farm a more macro flower farm, hey?? 😜😜

Every year, I try to buy a new book (or books) on a particular aspect of farming, or market farming in general.

This year, I opted for this book to deep dive on growing in our high tunnels.

Maximizing output from these spaces ensures we are getting the best out of the investment, both the upfront investment in the infrastructure and our time and energy each year.

Providing abundant food for as much of the year as possible as efficiently as possible builds local food security, and we feel it is key to being able to be a profitable half-acre "micro" farm.

Looking forward to gleaning new tips and tricks from this book to implement for next year.

We are passionate about supporting local arts and culture, as well as the local food system.

It's one of many reasons we like to invite some of the incredibly talented musicians we have in this region to play at our farm-to-table dinners.

We are super excited that Tenise Marie will be serenading us for our Fall Farm Feast on Friday 18 September, with her luminous voice, enchanting lyrics, and musicality that transcends the expectations and confines of one single genre.

Influenced by iconic artists like Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, her work is lyrically rich, emotionally resonant, and deeply personal, exploring themes of love, humanity, travel, and cultural identity while musically mixing folk, soul, jazz and West Asian inflections.

Her latest album Off The Record was released in July 2025, and we can't wait for her showcase it and more at the farm for the Fall Farm Feast on Friday 18 September.
