New release: Kenya – Thuti, Nyeri
It’s been a while since we’ve had a Kenya coffee in our lineup. We've been patient, looking for something that captures what we love from the origin, and we found that in this lot presented to us by the Poma team. They’ve been working closely with washing stations and farms across the region, offering guidance on soil health, fertilisation, and general farm management to strengthen quality at the source.

This lot originates from Thuti, a small washing station located near the town of Othaya in Nyeri, where around 380 farmers cultivate primarily SL28 and SL34 in rich, high-altitude, volcanic soil. The result is everything we could have hoped for from a great Kenya cup: light berry sweetness, crisp acidity, and notes of rhubarb and black currant.

Scanomat School Uniforms Project 2025 – Leku, Sidama, Ethiopia ✨

Our recent Impact Project in Ethiopia focused on reducing cost barriers to education by providing school uniforms for two government schools in the Leku area. In Ethiopia, wearing a school uniform is often a requirement to attend school, and for many families, the cost can be an obstacle.

Together with Daniel, Worku, and Sany, we worked closely with village elders and schools to identify what would make the biggest difference for the community. We had initially talked about IT equipment but the community let us know that school uniforms would have a more direct and widespread impact.

This month, the uniforms were fitted, produced locally, and handed out to students. Worku and Sany also visited the schools to collect certificates of appreciation on behalf of the project.

We are so grateful to see this initiative come to life and to support more students in Leku on their educational journey!

🌳🍂 Scenes from Nicaragua.

In Matagalpa and Jinotega, coffee is grown, and cared for by smallholder farmers who have worked these lands for generations. Many of them operate independently rather than in cooperatives, giving them more freedom to decide how and where to sell their coffee.

Nor International, founded by Frederik Zeuthen, connects this network of growers with international markets while also running Finca Jesper, a farm that doubles as a hub for processing, training, and sustainable practices.

Coffee sourced through Nor is used in many of our blends, as it so elegantly contrasts, and balances heavier beans with its bright acidity and juicy freshness.

☕🌿 Shade or sun? There is no single right way to grow coffee.

Arabica began in the shaded highland forests of Ethiopia and South Sudan, but over centuries it has adapted to many landscapes, from Yemen’s terraced slopes to Brazil’s sunlit fields. Dense shade can protect soil, host birds, and store carbon.

In other climates, the same shade can raise disease pressure or cut yields. Sun systems may stabilise income, but often rely on irrigation, fertilisers, or soil amendments. Shade systems bring their own demands — pruning, managing canopy density, and sometimes slower, more complex harvesting.

When buyers or consumers demand a single model, they risk ignoring the realities that farmers face. We argue that the right approach is the one rooted in local climate, land, and livelihoods, not in a single label.

Something as simple as concrete paths can make a big difference.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve supported the construction of thousands of meters of paved pathways in two coffee villages in Aceh Tengah, Indonesia. What used to be muddy trails are now concrete roads, making it easier and safer for farmers to reach their farms, especially during harvest season when cherries need to be transported quickly.

This infrastructure project was developed in partnership with the Ketiara Cooperative and is part of our Impact Trade programme, which supports community-driven initiatives in the regions where we source coffee. By investing directly in projects chosen by the local communities, we're hoping to ensure that our partnerships deliver meaningful, long-term benefits.
