Cafe Oak - Geddington

Part of the charitable project that helps support young people, this adorable hidden cafe in the beautiful village of Geddington near Kettering has a wonderful family friendly, community feel.

I went alone and was greeted by a warm welcome. A perfect place for solo diners, they even have a ‘sharing table’ where strangers can get to know one another.

I ordered a shakshuka and a flat white, both delicious. I couldn’t resist a slice of the homemade carrot and walnut cake which was super tasty and packed full of juicy raisins.

Come here if you want great food, great company, and want to feel great about supporting this fantastic community venture.

The Old Cherry Tree - Great Houghton

We stopped by the beautiful and traditional thatched pub .oldcherrytree hidden in the back of Great Houghton for a taste of their Sunday roast a couple of weeks ago.

My favourite part was the large variety of vegetables on the plate: carrot, roast potatoes, peas, green beans, mangetout, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower cheese, carrot and orange puree and roasted shallot!

Stanwick Lakes - Near Rushden

A nature reserve spanning 750 acres, is perfect for walking the dog, cycling or horse riding and a favourite place of ours due to its fantastic playground which IMO is the best in the county.

Mellow Yellow - Hargrave

Fourth-generation farmer Duncan Farrington MBE and his team sustainably grow, press and bottle their own oil in the beautiful East Northamptonshire countryside.

Rapeseed oil, also known as canola oil, often gets a bad rap because the majority of it is highly processed, bleached and deodorised. This product is cold pressed which preserves both the taste and the wonderful health benefits that are destroyed in its chemically extracted counterparts.

Here’s why you should try this far superior oil:
🧠 10x more Omega 3 than other oils, ideal ratio to Omega 6
🔥 High smoke point, perfect for roasting & BBQ
🍞 Mild buttery flavour is ideal for baking
👁️ Good source of Vitamin E for eyes & skin
🦴 Vitamin K for healthy bones & clotting
🧈 Low in Saturated fat (50% less than olive oil)
💗 Natural source of plant sterols benefits cardiovascular health
♻️ Worlds first food product to be both carbon neutral and plastic neutral certified
⭐️ Great taste 2 star award winner

The Italian Corner - Northampton

The wonderful family run Italian cafe and deli on St. Leonard’s Road is quickly becoming a favourite spot of ours!

I popped in with my little boy to try the Sicilian brioche with gelato and it was so good. The lemon flavour in particular was our favourite!

I also didn’t realise the roof of the back room opens up either, what a wonderful sun trap that is perfect for this weather ☀️

Middle Eastern inspired couscous, veg and chicken

The sun is out and I fancied making something tasty and healthy that reminded me of holiday!

This is really easy to do as you can roast everything in the oven at 180°C, put the veg in for 20mins first then add in the chicken and cook for a further 20mins.

🐓 Paprika roasted chicken breast & chickpeas
🍠 Za’atar roasted sweet potato
🫑 Roasted Yellow/red bell peppers & red onion
🥄 Hummus
🌾 Wholewheat couscous
🌱 Chopped mint and lemon balm, pomegranate seeds & a drizzle of pomegranate molasses

Rowell Charter Inn - Rothwell

👑 Originally called The Sun Inn, changed its name to commemorate the Royal Charter granted to the town in 1614 by King James I (see more below)

🛝 It’s a great place for a drink, especially in their sunny new garden with the play area for kids and terrace for adults.

🍔 They also have trailer serving up burgers, loaded fries and other pub classics on Tues, Thurs, Fri & Sat.
