The Cheese Place - Towcester

This little gem hidden away just off the Towcester high street is The Cheese Place, the physical home of artisan cheesemonger Cheese on Towcest'.(Towcester is pronounced ‘Toaster’ by the way, this name is very clever!)

The shop sells exclusively UK made cheeses on rotation, including local varieties, and it has a small indoor seating area where you can enjoy light lunches and cheeseboards.

Home Farm MK - Milton Keynes

Artisan honey maker Home Farm MK 🐝 Honey & Beekeeping has a range of exciting and unusual small-batch honey flavours including cinnamon, ginger & turmeric, matcha and cacao.

Their habanero chilli honey is my favourite and unlike some hot honeys it is far from bland and has just the right amount of kick.

It is great on chicken, halloumi and pizza but I love to use it to make a soothing lemon, honey and ginger tea when I’m feeling poorly. It certainly helps to perk you up!

The Crown Inn - Weston

Tucked away between Banbury and Silverstone is the charming family run pub The Crown Inn Weston

For 13 years husband and wife team Mike and Hannah have been welcoming guests with delicious homemade food and friendly service.

We had the scallops & prawns with homemade bread to start, the hake & pork belly for mains and the burnt basque cheesecake & treacle tart for dessert. All beautifully presented and prepared, it was well worth the drive!

Dark chocolate mousse and honeycomb

Chocolate mousse is one of the easiest things to make, even my 6 year old helped me do this:

* Melt 110g dark chocolate (70%)
* Separate 2 eggs - whisk the yolks with 30g caster sugar, then mix in the slightly cooled chocolate.
* Whisk 35g double cream until stiff and gently mix into the chocolate mixture.
* Whisk egg whites to stiff peaks, fold in.
* Pour into ramekins and leave to set

Honeycomb is also easy, but involves your full attention as it is so easy to burn or hurt yourself, it gets very very hot:

* Prep a tin with baking paper
* Melt 100g caster sugar and 2 tbsp golden syrup in large pan, gently stir until all dissolved
* Turn up heat, let it bubble undisturbed until it turns colour of maple syrup
* Take off heat, add 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda and immediately stir fast
* Transfer foamy molten hot liquid into tin & leave for 1 hour

The 2 together are a match made in heaven!
For extra indulgence add a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkling of coarse sea salt.

The Great - Great Easton

Just over the Northamptonshire border into Leicestershire is the village of Great Easton, home to the sweetest little family-run cafe and shop.

Enjoy great coffee, sweet treats and sandwiches in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at . I had a fruit and almond friand and a Caprese sandwich which were delicious.

There is also a cute shop at the back selling crafts, books, toys & gifts inc calligraphy from owner Imogen Owen

Tamarind - Northampton

For over 20 years has been a local favourite for Indian and Nepalese cuisine, and with its great food and friendly service it’s easy to see why.

We went for their great value banquet night, where for £15.95 you get a starter, main, rice or naan and a side to share. Well worth a visit!
