With another frost due in last night, Crispy borrowed 7 frost pots to help warm the air up in the lowest part of vineyard. We’re trying to protect the remaining tender young shoots of our Chardonnay vines which were hit last week. Frost pot - diesel heaters, have been used for years in both orchards and vineyards. They’re certainly quite magical to be around flickering away in the depth of a chilly still night.

Beautiful clear skys, a big moon and 0 degree temp’s equals “frost damage” in our earlier sprouting grape varieties; namely Chardonnay! It’s night two of this cold spell and we’ve awoken to the sound of our neighbours frost fans whirling away down the valley. We’re hoping the cold air keeps rolling down our hills and not settling long enough to inflict any more damage… because we’re desperately needing as much of our Chardonnay fruit as possible for 2027 CLAY ON CLAY Chardonnay 🤞 **e
