Last night Katie (new owner, Genesis Arena) and I attended a nutrition seminar focused on forage with Caledonia Farmers Elevator Store and Purina, soaking in (pun intended) information on hay quality and replacers, vitamins and minerals and more. Katie was able to connect with our reps to continue the amazing relationships we have built over the years. I unfortunately did NOT win the awesome manure spreader they gave away. It's so fun to watch the Bush family prepare to take over operations and I am absolutely positive they will do an amazing job.

Important information! Green isn't always better.

Did you know that nutritionally, the bright green hay on the right isn’t necessarily healthier than the yellower, brown-colored hay on the left?
Sometimes, the prettiest and greenest hay isn’t always the best choice for every animal or every diet!
Our Bermuda grass hay on the left has a low NSC of 4.8% and protein at 12.1%, making it a great source of protein while helping keep sugar levels lower.
Our Western Orchard hay on the right has an NSC of 13% with 11% protein. Higher sugar levels with a touch lower protein levels.
We’re definitely not saying orchardgrass is a bad or unhealthy hay—it can be an excellent forage option! However, based on these particular forage tests, the Bermuda has the lower NSC and higher protein content which makes it ideally the more healthier hay.
Don’t judge hay solely by its color instead, look into nutritional analysis as they can tell you much more about what’s actually in the bale rather than the color of it!

This weirdo is starting to act like a real cat and not a grumpalumpus. He has figured out people can scratch places he can't reach.

Franklin the Barn Potato has adopted this as his new favorite pose - in the middle of the aisle, in everyone's way.

After nearly 14 years of calling Bairdcroft home, we are stepping back and handing the reins over to an amazing family. We are excited for the future of the farm and the fresh energy and enthusiasm they bring. Rean and Katie Bush and their children will be taking over on November 1, and we couldn’t be happier for them. It is hard to find someone with experience and a solid work ethic to willingly take on this lifestyle. They are active members in the equine community - Rean has been our farrier for over a decade, and their children are all active in various rodeo events and enjoy extensive trail riding as well. Be sure to follow them on Facebook at Genesis Arena and reach out directly to them for any questions on boarding or training.

Leaving ponies in for a bit with breakfast while some of the rain moves through. Yes, I know they won't melt, but it's not quite as warm as it could be for a summer shower.
