This week, we lost a legend.

I have watched and listened endlessly to decades of talent, smarts, and an authenticity that felt like a gift to every person who encountered it. Dolly lived by two things above all else, be true to yourself and trust in something greater than yourself.

Stumbling out of bed to pour myself that cup of ambition was harder and slower this week.

For me, Dolly was also the voice of my grandmothers. I grew up spending summers in Menard, Texas, with my Grandpa and his wife Ramona — a woman who could bring warmth and life to any room and who literally sounded like Dolly when she spoke. Anytime I heard Dolly, all I could hear was Ramona.

Dolly made you feel like you knew her. Through her music, through the way she talked directly to you through the camera lens, through her honesty about life and herself.

What would Dolly do? I think if we ask ourselves that every single day we will leave every day better than we found it.

From Ruby and me and everyone at the farm in Appalachia — we will always love you Dolly.

Turn the radio up and sing loudly. 🤍

There are only two more chances to experience Heirloom Springs this year.

In one month September 25 - 27, we will gather for Herbalism in the Blue Ridge with Kat Maier Kat Maier a weekend created especially for women in perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause. We will explore plant medicine, move our bodies, eat beautiful food, walk the gardens and forest, and spend time in conversation and community.

The following weekend October 2 - 4, we will welcome women back to the farm for our Women’s Signature Retreat, a weekend of good food, meaningful experiences, laughter, creativity, movement, joy and time to simply step away from the everyday.

Both retreats are incredibly special. Both have space remaining.

And we know from experience that sometimes the things that make the biggest difference in our lives begin with simply deciding to say yes to something.

If you have been watching from afar, thinking about joining us, or waiting for the right time, perhaps this is your sign.

Two weekends. Two very different experiences. One beautiful farm.

We would love to welcome you here. 🌿

There is something powerful about gathering the right women in the right place at the right time.

In one month, we will welcome a small group of women to Heirloom Springs for Herbalism in the Blue Ridge, a retreat created specifically for women in perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause.

And this is the team that will guide the weekend.

Kat Maier joins us as our special guest and lead educator, bringing her deep knowledge of herbal medicine and women’s health to conversations and hands-on workshops that support women through this stage of life. Kat Maier

Chef Christine will nourish us with beautiful, delicious farm-to-table meals inspired by the season and the needs of women in midlife. Mise En Place

Grace, our yoga and wilderness guide, will lead us in movement and time outdoors, including walks through the gardens and forest. Grace Ranson

And Rachael Lieck Bryce will bring what she has spent her life teaching: Pilates, movement, and the belief that our bodies deserve to be understood and supported through every stage of life. Rachael Lieck Bryce

Together, we will make plant medicine. Gather around the table. Move our bodies. Walk through the gardens and forest. Eat beautiful food. Ask questions. Share stories. Rest. Laugh. Learn.

But perhaps most importantly, we will make space for honest conversation about perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause.

Because this stage of life deserves more than being endured quietly.

It deserves knowledge. Support. Community. And a little time set aside just for you.

Only 2 spots left—reserve yours now to be part of this transformative weekend.

Wait for it❤️

If you have ever been to Heirloom Springs, chances are you have heard the story of Guinea Girl and Feather.
They are two of our original guinea fowl and, after everything they have survived, have become something of a legendary couple around here.

This weekend, I went out to the herb cottage garden to check on Guinea Girl, who had been sitting faithfully on a pile of eggs.

I knew there were little keets underneath her.
What I did not expect was what happened next.
Guinea Girl stood up and revealed a whole pile of tiny babies.

Then Feather stood up beside her.
And he had babies under him too.
I about lost my mind. 😂

There are 10 new keets, and all weekend I have watched not just Guinea Girl and Feather, but the other three adults too, all seemingly taking turns watching, protecting, and caring for these babies.

Apparently, it takes a village.

And around here, the village is made up of five guinea fowl with questionable survival instincts, a legendary backstory, and now ten tiny babies to raise.
Welcome to the world, little keets. 🤍

Nature’s acrobat 🤸‍♂️💛 Caught this American Goldfinch harvesting breakfast straight from the Echinacea seed heads this morning! Leaving your dried purple coneflowers up in late summer isn’t just a treat for these birds—it’s a huge boost for local biodiversity.

Goldfinches help scatter native seeds, promoting healthier, more diverse backyard ecosystems.

Pro-tip: Skip the deadheading and let your garden go to seed! 🌻

Did you know agritourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in experiential travel in the world right now?

People are hungry for something real. Authentic land. Food that actually came from somewhere. Time in nature that is not manufactured or packaged. Connection that happens because the setting made it possible.

Heirloom Springs has been doing this since 2021, before most people had a word for it.
Sixty-seven acres in the Blue Ridge foothills of Virginia where two creeks meet between two mountains. We welcome private groups, corporate off-sites, and women's wellness retreats throughout the year.

Our 2027 calendar is open. If you have been thinking about bringing your people somewhere that does the work before the work begins, we would love to talk.
