Who would have thought having a Veterinary Technician program, agricultural-based Clemson University, and a brand new Veterinary School all within 10 miles of our farm, that our summer help would be 3 ACC Track and Field scholarship student athletes? We have enjoyed having Brian, Victor, and Gideon volunteering at the farm this summer. Gideon leaves us this weekend as he transfers to Oregon to finish his undergraduate degree. Brian and Victor head home to Kenya at the end of June to visit family before returning to Clemson to start their fall semester. These kids have been a joy to have around. All three are fast learners who truly love animals. You can’t ask for more than that!

The American Dairy Goat Association has just released the “Top 10 Breed Leaders” for 2024. These animals are the highest producing dairy goats in each breed for milk production during that given year.

Think of it like a national leaderboard:)

Each dairy breed — Nubian, Alpine, LaMancha, Guernsey, Nigerian Dwarf, etc. — has does ranked based on official production records collected through DHIR milk testing. At the end of the year, ADGA publishes the top-producing animals in each breed.

The rankings are based on:

* Total pounds of milk
* Pounds of butterfat
* Pounds of protein

We are excited to announce Split-Creek Devereaux’s Tigris has placed Number 1 in all 3 categories. Go Tigris! But then you see she’s the only Guernsey listed for 2 of the three categories…

Does this mean she was the only Guernsey on milk test for this year that also did a qualifying verification milk test? YES

Does this mean she isn’t deserving of this achievement? NO

When comparing Tigris’s milk test numbers with those of the closest comparable breed in size and production, the Oberhasli, we can see that she would have easily placed in the Top 10 of that breed as well!

Now to get more Guernseys on milk test and more names added to this list!!
