Chapter Six , the one where Teadore stops being alone.

He was nine that spring. He’d wandered the garden by himself for a long while and didn’t mind, exactly. But sometimes, watching the honeybees buzz off together, he wondered what it might be like to have someone to wonder with.

Then one bright morning near the rosemary, a small voice said, “Ooh : are you a tea leaf too?”

Half-hidden behind a daisy stood a little leaf his own age. Smaller, rounder, glowing warm reddish-amber. “I’m Rosie,” she said. “Rosie Pu-erh.”

Then she looked him over and grinned. “Oolong! I’ve never met anyone shaped like you. You’re all tall and pointy. I love it!”

And just like that, the thing he’d always felt shy about became the very first thing a friend adored.

Chapter Five, and this one might be our favorite.

Teadore had learned to care for the garden. Now he had to learn something harder : how to care for himself.

He didn’t know how at first. So he started small. A stretch toward the sun and three slow breaths each morning. A warm cup, a journal, and three good things written down each evening.

Some days the only good thing he could find was the tea itself. That counted.

Slowly, the little rituals did their quiet work. He stood steadier. Smiled easier. He learned that resting isn’t lazy, and being gentle with yourself isn’t selfish : it’s how a leaf keeps growing.

You cannot pour from an empty cup. What’s the one small ritual that keeps yours full?

Chapter Four : and this is the one where Teadore figures out what tea actually is.

He slung a little satchel over his shoulder and set out to meet the garden herb by herb.

At the chamomile he learned the gift of calm. At the mint, the gift of refresh. At the lemon balm, the gift of lifting spirits on a heavy day.

He ran his hands over every leaf, whispering the names like a song. And then he understood: each one was a small kindness the earth had grown on purpose.

“So that’s what tea really is,” he said. “It’s the garden’s way of taking care of us.”
