“Into each life a little rain must fall”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This weekend we experienced more than a little rain when our Oven malfunctioned!

5 mins into our Sunday bake our pumpkin muffins were blacker than black. The oven was throwing codes, beeping and wouldn’t turn off with smoke spreading through the room! I ended up having to flip the breaker to even get the oven to turn off and stop!!
18 muffins ruined, a kitchen full of smoke and windows wide open was not the way I was thinking of starting my Sunday, but at least the farm stand got out on time!!🤣

After a quick google search, I found out that the sensor was in "Thermal Runaway" or overheating condition. I let the oven cool down and after some time, fired her back up.
Everything appeared normal so I put a sacrificial single pkg of bagels to cook.. I wasnt going to risk a whole batch.

Well sacrifice was the correct word and the bagels got a little crispy a few short minutes in to the bake. Again I shut it off. I ended up leaving the bagels in the hot oven that I had shut off in an attempt to salvage some delicious bagels. The attempt was successful. They cooked to a perfect internal temperature and crispy blackened tops was a delicious treat the last few days.

Now I had a dilemma. I still had orders that I had to bake. So a quick phone call, a lot of stuff to pack up and away I go to an amazing friends house to finish baking 24 bagels and a special batch of pumpkin muffins.

Fast forward to today. I went oven shopping yesterday. It has been a longstanding request of many in the "know" that a double oven would benefit us greatly. When I got home after "airing" out the malfunctioned oven I gave it another try.. Works perfectly.. hmmm?

Looking back on everything I had successfully baked 4 breads that morning with no issues. I ended up misting my first set of breads in the actual oven and I think maybe the water might of messed with the sensors so everything after that was an issue until things aired out and reset

Storms and rain pass.... Keep plowing through!!

Ps.. Did I also mention that one my dough hooks snapped in half and that I had to finish my orders with a single dough hook because the replacement hooks wouldnt fit in the mixer even though they were the same brand and my back up mixer that I have never used and was still in the box had short beaters? Oh well...

Oy.. but it was a very successful weekend minus a few drops of rain!😛

Good morning everyone!

It is Saturday so the stand is stocked and ready to go!

This week we started that “real”job once again so it made for a challenging week and a 4:30-10:30pm Friday working and baking so everything is fresh and ready to go for all of you. It was a bit much!
That system is not going to work long term for us so we will have to fig something out!

Ps anyone have an extra plug in oven they are looking to get rid of? 😂

See you soon! 🥯🍞🍪

So yesterday I started my 32nd year in education. Crazy! Not sure I am going to make it to 62, but we shall see!

I started as a 2nd grade teacher, then 4 years as a 6th grade Science teacher, then 2 yrs as a middle school Asst Principal, then 14 yrs as a PreK-8 Principal and currently 10 yrs as Middle School Tech Ed/Hands on Tech Teacher!

Each stop had their share of challenges and victories along with incredible people and individuals who shall not be named!

Not sure how I am going to do the baking farm stand thing, the full time job thing, the chicken duck and farming thing and going to bed at a reasonable hr thing, but we will give it a shot and hopefully folks will be flexible!

Thank you to all the incredible educators, parents and students that have helped shape me along the way!

Here is to year 32!

Maine
So yesterday we tried a new recipe and put them out at the farm stand a few hrs prior to closing because the stand was pretty much wiped out!
Why make them at all and put them out near closing you ask? Well there is a story and I am going to tell you.. ha.

My youngest daughter, Now in SC, looks forward to the release of a certain New England raised Coffee and Doughnut shops Pumpkin Muffin every year. Well this weekend was the release of the muffin and she was so excited until..... THIS!

Well looking at that sad little thing, and her crest fallen hopes and dreams, I was inspired to say: I can make a pumpkin muffin, WhyNot... lets give it a shot.

So I went hunting for recipes and away I went. A double batch later and here you go, a new Muffin choice to add to the lineup on the farm stand for the future. Of course I had to make it similar to the original pumpkin muffin she bought with the crumb top and a Vanilla drizzle icing.

I know she cant eat it right now but hopefully in the future it will bring hers and all of you that long for the good ole days before cutbacks and Shrinkflation of your favorite treat!
Have a great day!
