“Into each life a little rain must fall”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
This weekend we experienced more than a little rain when our Oven malfunctioned!
5 mins into our Sunday bake our pumpkin muffins were blacker than black. The oven was throwing codes, beeping and wouldn’t turn off with smoke spreading through the room! I ended up having to flip the breaker to even get the oven to turn off and stop!!
18 muffins ruined, a kitchen full of smoke and windows wide open was not the way I was thinking of starting my Sunday, but at least the farm stand got out on time!!🤣
After a quick google search, I found out that the sensor was in "Thermal Runaway" or overheating condition. I let the oven cool down and after some time, fired her back up.
Everything appeared normal so I put a sacrificial single pkg of bagels to cook.. I wasnt going to risk a whole batch.
Well sacrifice was the correct word and the bagels got a little crispy a few short minutes in to the bake. Again I shut it off. I ended up leaving the bagels in the hot oven that I had shut off in an attempt to salvage some delicious bagels. The attempt was successful. They cooked to a perfect internal temperature and crispy blackened tops was a delicious treat the last few days.
Now I had a dilemma. I still had orders that I had to bake. So a quick phone call, a lot of stuff to pack up and away I go to an amazing friends house to finish baking 24 bagels and a special batch of pumpkin muffins.
Fast forward to today. I went oven shopping yesterday. It has been a longstanding request of many in the "know" that a double oven would benefit us greatly. When I got home after "airing" out the malfunctioned oven I gave it another try.. Works perfectly.. hmmm?
Looking back on everything I had successfully baked 4 breads that morning with no issues. I ended up misting my first set of breads in the actual oven and I think maybe the water might of messed with the sensors so everything after that was an issue until things aired out and reset
Storms and rain pass.... Keep plowing through!!
Ps.. Did I also mention that one my dough hooks snapped in half and that I had to finish my orders with a single dough hook because the replacement hooks wouldnt fit in the mixer even though they were the same brand and my back up mixer that I have never used and was still in the box had short beaters? Oh well...
Oy.. but it was a very successful weekend minus a few drops of rain!😛
