These 2 chicks hatched on the same day! (3weeks) This is the difference in growth between a chicken hatched for meat and a chicken hatched for laying eggs. The birds hatched for meat grow to be 6-8 pounds in only 7 weeks where the chickens hatched to lay eggs take 6 months to grow to full size and only ever weigh around 4 pounds. They don’t start laying eggs until they are 6 month old! It is why egg prices fluctuate more than chicken prices in the grocery stores. The turn around on meat chickens is much faster than the turn around on chickens for laying eggs!
The chick on the left is the meat bird, the chick on the right is the layer.

These two kids are the biggest helpers and give me the biggest heart attacks. At least their dad was up there with them. The dairy girls thought they were quite the spectacle!

Just a quick little update! Mama here is doing great despite her stuck situation! She is due with her baby in a few more weeks! We are so excited to be able to post baby pictures soon!

We had a crazy exciting afternoon yesterday! Our biggest mama cow got her head stuck in one of the feeders in the high heat of the afternoon. Our cows are usually very docile and easy to work with but she was quite panicked. It took a couple of hours of working with her but we did get her freed and he is doing so good. There is never a dull moment on the farm!

NEWS!!!!
We will be at the Arnott Farmers Market tonight! We will have brats and ground as well as burger buns and brat buns, bacon, cookies, pork chops, and so much more! It’s their first ever market! If you are looking for something to do come out and visit us from 5-9pm!!!

These babies will be weaning in the next week! Look how big they are getting!

Just a reminder there’s one week left on our May Sales, take advantage while you can!
Then take a peak at the size difference between laying vs meat chicks at 1 week of age! As well as the piglets taking a nap by Big Bad John in the barn!
Lastly we train them young around here haha. Thomas wouldn’t let a day go by when he couldn’t help his dad outside. This little boy will turn 3 in July and I think he could just about run this place by himself already! He is so strong and smart and he loves getting a job to do!
