We teamed up with a new bee keeper this year at the farm. We are excited for a great year of happy bees and sweet honey. Sweet Shady Acres bees have been making themselves at home this spring.

June is Dairy Month. Wisconsin is America's Dairyland. That's not a marketing line — that's a way of life. 🐄 Drink your milk. Eat your cheese. And for the love of everything good — get yourself some ice cream. Get out to a dairy breakfast. Enjoy it. You deserve it.

Tonight's sky over the farm. A blue moon — the second full moon of May.

Grandpa and Dad always watched the moon. Not just to admire it, but to read it. The old saying around here was simple: whatever weather the full moon brings, expect more of the same for the next two weeks.
Today was warm and dry.

For the crops in the ground, that's a concern. But for the hay that's ready to cut — it's a green light. You make hay when the sun shines. That's not just an expression. That's the plan.
Hopefully we cut, rake, and bale before the weather turns. Then let it rain. Let the corn, beans and flowers drink. Let the second crop of hay start climbing.
The moon doesn't lie. It just doesn't always tell you what you want to hear.

Yesterday was their birthday. Nineteen years.

Today I drove the old Highway Ten — County P now — to Blenker for flower seed. Zinnias. Sunflowers.

Nineteen years ago that same road took me to Marshfield every day. To the NICU. To Evan and Clayton.

Clayton lived twelve days. Evan lived twenty-four. Science and technology gave me days with my boys I might not have had in another era. I'm grateful for every one of them.

They changed me. I was already growing sunflowers before they came. After they were gone, the sunflowers became something more. A memory. A purpose. Part of what this farm is now.

Today I drove this road to buy seed.

Twelve days and twenty-four days. It's amazing the work those two got done in such a short time.

Caught this beauty last night at the first-ever Arnott Outdoor Weekly Market!

The rain may have scared off a few vendors, but the brave souls who showed up were rewarded — a solid group of buyers before AND after the shower, and a sunset that made it all worth it.
Small beginnings. Big skies. See you next week.
