“Jack of all trades, master of none” — but there’s more to that saying than most people remember.
Sometimes, being a jack of all trades is far more special than being the master of just one.
And if there was ever a horse that embodied those words, it would be Diesel. ❤️
At 21 years young, this incredible horse continues to prove that his worth was never measured by how many titles he could win, how many ribbons he could collect, or how many trophies he could carry home.
His greatest gift has always been what he gives to the people who sit in his saddle.
Diesel has been a leadline horse, a step-up horse, a first ranch horse, a confidence builder, a lesson in humility, a teacher, a babysitter, a best friend — and sometimes, the horse who quietly fills the empty space left behind by another.
He has carried children whose parents once showed him.
He has carried nervous riders who needed someone they could trust.
He has helped people find their confidence again.
He has been there for first rides, first shows, first ribbons, first High Points, Reserve High Points, Congress Championships, Reserve Championships, and countless moments that may never have made it into a trophy case — but will live in someone's heart forever.
And that is Diesel’s legacy.
Not the trophies.
Not the titles.
Not the ribbons.
The people.
The little kids who grew up with him.
The riders who learned to believe in themselves because he believed in them first.
The people who climbed off his back a little taller, a little braver, and a little more confident than when they climbed on.
Diesel has been my personal horse since he was just 6 months old.
For more than two decades, he has walked beside me through some of the highest highs and lowest lows of both showing and life. He has seen me grow, change, struggle, succeed, and start over.
And through it all, he has remained Diesel.
Patient.
Kind.
Steady.
Faithful.
Giving every single person I put in his path the very best of himself.
There truly isn’t much this horse hasn’t done.
And somehow, after 21 years, I still don’t think he’s finished.
Because maybe that’s the most beautiful part of his story…
His story isn’t over yet. ❤️
There are still people he hasn’t met, riders he hasn’t helped, lessons he hasn’t taught, memories waiting to be made, and hearts he hasn’t yet touched.
I don’t know how many chapters we have left, and maybe that’s what makes every chapter now feel a little more precious.
But I do know this:
I will forever be grateful that a 6-month-old c**t became mine.
And I will be even more grateful that, throughout the years, he became so much more than my horse.
He became our horse.
A piece of so many people’s stories.
A part of so many childhoods.
A reason for so many smiles.
A safe place for so many riders.
And a reminder that sometimes the greatest horses aren’t the ones who do just one thing better than anyone else.
They are the ones who can do everything…
and somehow make every person who sits on their back feel like they are the most important person in the world.
To know him is to love him.
21 years young.
A lifetime of memories.
And a story that isn’t finished writing yet.
That is Diesel. ❤️🐴
