The not-so-glamorous side of the food business hustle: during a rainy and cold but otherwise not at all windy day at the farmers market on Friday, a rogue gust of wind lifted up my (weighted) tent and sent it into my rear windshield. The top pole smashed through the glass, then one of the bungees holding my banner got caught in the rear spoiler, which bent and caused part of the plastic underneath to pop out. It was so windy that one of the weights ended up on TOP of my car and we only found it because I was looking everywhere and someone said "wouldn't it be crazy if it was on top of the car?"
I took it to the windshield place so they could cover it with plastic, as it was raining all day, and had an at-home appt this afternoon to replace the glass. They then called me at 5 pm to inform me the replacement windshield has shattered in the technician's truck as he was en route to the house. I cannot even make this up.
So now I am windshield-less until next Tuesday, and then am on the way to the body shop on Wednesday to fix the rest of the batch hatch where the bungee caught.
I am def grateful that no one was hurt and it was my own car that was damaged and not someone else's. I also spent a lot of time kicking myself and trying to figure out what I could have done to avoid this. But in the end the answer is not much 😔 It was one big sudden gust of wind that I didn't expect. But as you might expect, as a business owner I always have a plan to control everything, and when unwelcome surprises like this happen it's a bit of a bummer.
