Watching the chicks emerge just never gets old 🐣 And that little moment when the first chick started to clean the most recent, is just too cute here.

Meet the farmer πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ

In the first 10 years of adulthood, I've had the rare honor to work with somewhere around 150 unique species. The individual animals is well over 1,000. Ever since I was young I knew my path would revolve around nature and wildlife, though the path has taken me to all sorts of cool places within that realm that I never would have imagined before.

When life turned upside down, it brought me back to my hometown of Bend, OR. I'm ever grateful for the time I get to spend around so much family up here, and I love getting to know so many of the people who also call Central Oregon their home.

It's been a whole new playing field raising my own farming/ranching business from the ground up. Everything I do here at Lost Grace Farm is rooted deeply in my passion and love for this wild world we all get to be a part of.

Thanks for joining me on this grand adventure,

Kate

Building the "Shedquarters"

This project is the biggest one I've ever taken on, but with the support of a few wonderful people it came out beautifully. This building now holds all the farm's incubating eggs, brooding chicks, and some produce (like curing garlic, and growing micro greens).

This multipurpose space has made it possible to streamline so much of the work that needs to be done around the farm, all while keeping the farm work from falling into any open space on our kitchen table!

POV trying to sleep in when you have kids 😴 How would you caption this snuggle scene?

The quail got a micro greens treat in the greenhouse!

I needed to pulverize an invasive beetle nesting in the greenhouse, so the quail pen was expanded and the cover encouraged to pull up some greens and the eggs in the soil along with it.

Don't exhaust your egg money on dusty herb mixes from the feed store. If you're like me, you quite likely have all the herbs you need around your garden.

Many of them are just companions for other veggies around my garden. Harvesting them keeps them growing all season long, and even the few I use from my tea garden produce more tea than I could drink in a year.

Today's blend is a mix of lavender, oregano peppermint, calendula, rosemary chamomile, and a few dried habaneros left from the pantry. When there's extra I often add in rose petals and sometimes thyme or lemon balm. There's no perfect recipe, so have fun experimenting with your excess herbs out there!
