Update to our Non-GMO Dairy ration:

We revisited our dairy ration formulation.

Initially, the high proportion of peas, added to boost protein levels, seemed to impart a bitter taste to cows accustomed to molasses-based feeds and transitioning to our ration.

Ideally, any new feed should be introduced gradually to prevent digestive upset.

Notably, cows without prior exposure to molasses-based rations found it palatable and milk production was high compared to other like feeds available on the market.

Our initial consideration to add molasses was later reconsidered upon discovering that most molasses is derived from genetically modified beet pulp, which did not align with our production preferences, particularly given the complexity of incorporating it into our mixer/grinder. Similarly, dry molasses alternatives were dismissed due to GMO concerns.

Following consultations with our nutritionists from Devenish & Fertrell and incorporating feedback from our core customers, we opted for organic flax seed meal as a substitute for the excessive field peas.

Our goal with all of our feeds is to provide whole grains without any fillers, screenings, medlings, etc. Just good clean feed that stays consistent with milk production in mind.
