Wishing Tree Farm

Wishing Tree Farm Wishing Tree Farm is the former Hunter Landing Equestrian! Here is to a new chapter! www.WishingTreeFarm.com "Happy horses are those with full bellies."

Hunter Landing is situated on 38 acres and is a facility designed for top-quality horse boarding, horseback riding lessons, training, sales, horseshows, clinics, and summer camp programs. While we welcome all disciplines, hunter/jumper and equitation disciplines are the primary focus - it's what we're good at! We are located just minutes from Sylvan Beach, conveniently between Utica and Syracuse,

with easy access from Rome, NY and the New York State Thruway. "Shady Maples Stable" was founded by Mary and Dale McCall in 1997. The McCall's worked hard and passionately to make the property what it is today, which is still filled with great people and horses alike. The farm was purchased in 2011 by Jason and Kelly Lasher under the new name of "Hunter Landing Equestrian," with plans to improve the property and what it has to offer, from great, to even better!

Proudly incorporating BEYOND the Backstretch into our show program this year! ❤️

There has been some confusion surrounding the BEYOND the backstretch divisions at horse shows and what our mission truly is.

So let’s clear it up.

BEYOND the backstretch is NOT just another showcase for Thoroughbreds.

Yes — we are incredibly proud to highlight the versatility, athleticism, heart, and talent of the Thoroughbred in the show ring, dressage arena, and combined training world. But our mission goes far beyond competition.

We exist to create REAL impact for Thoroughbreds beyond the racetrack.

As we’ve expanded, we’ve partnered with horse show managers to add BEYOND the backstretch divisions to their events. We provide prizes and ribbons to support these divisions, and in return, shows donate a significant portion — and sometimes ALL — of the proceeds back to BEYOND the backstretch.

And where does that money go?

Straight to Thoroughbred aftercare and rescue organizations.

That is the heart of what we do.

Each year or two, we select organizations to support not only financially, but through awareness, promotion, storytelling, and community support. This year, we are proudly fundraising for and the .

At its core, BEYOND the backstretch does three things:
• Showcases the incredible talent and adaptability of Thoroughbreds
• Gives back to Thoroughbreds in need
• Shines a spotlight on the organizations doing the hard, compassionate work every single day

But none of this happens without YOU.

Every ride. Every entry. Every share. Every tagged post. Every supporter.

Together, we are not just promoting Thoroughbreds.

We are advocating for them, supporting them, and helping create a better future BEYOND the backstretch.

UPDATE: Barfly found his person!!

***

Barfly is still available by some miracle!! 🤯

He just went to his first horse show. He was angelic amongst the chaos in the schooling ring. He jumped around without batting an eye, swapped his leads. No funny business whatsoever and never saw a lunge line.

Goodest boy!!

If someone doesn't come and hug and squeeze him as their own very soon, I am taking him to the makeover myself and I bet he is a contender to win the hunters!! Cuuuuute jump, big strided, fairly unflappable, and he likes to poke his lil nose out!

2020 gelding, 16h (measured). Above average pedigree. Green, but certainly safe and would do well with an ammy or junior in a program. 😉

𝙎𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙛𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙩 𝙊𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙠𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝙁𝙖𝙧𝙢 for their first show outing of the year... or was the case for four them, their first EVER lifetime horse show.

You might as well call us the thoroughbred people, but let's start with the pony...

McLaren piloted Banana Pancakes (Dusty) around the pony's first ever horse show. The pony was backed for the first time in mid-September (thanks, Jordy!) so to watch the pony show and jump around the 18" division just 7 months later by her kid was a pretty incredible thing, with some nice ribbons in a big division at that! Pony finals 2027?? 👀

Now the thoroughbreds' turn, plus two (Terrie's awesome quarter horse / paint duo) in order of appearance...

Offlee Cloudy didn't know how to take a breath when we met him, but BUGGY!!!!! You made us so proud!!!!! He stayed rideable, took lots of breaths, and said, "I think I can, I think I can!!" This horse has gained so much confidence in his skin, jumped around great, and we are proud of Peyton Gabriel for dedicating herself to him, even when the journey didn't feel so easy.

Smeauxkinitup was a dream, ridden by Kendyl Allen!! It was also his first ever show and he was happy to stand and nap, in spite of having last raced less than a year ago. We had no expectations but if we had, he exceeded them all and acted like an old veteran. AND.. and, and, and... it SERIOUSLY makes my heart so happy to see this talented rider back in the saddle again. ❤️

Barfly putted around the 18" with Amanda Jones who gave him a great first horseshow experience. He too, recently raced (the week of Thanksgiving). What a cutie patootie gentleman he was!!! He has a GREAT jump in there and an impromptu lead change built right in. Barfly said, "horseshow? What horse show?.... schooling ring chaos? What schooling ring?"

Terrie Wittman-Fox rode her gelding FordLincolnMercury in the biggest flat classes of the day. I would say he was incredible, and the traffic was no joke. As always, Terrie showed up and her horses always look a step above in their preparation.

Terrie returned to the ring for 2' with her mare, Skyheart. Terrie may not believe me, but she put some of the best jumping rounds on her mare that I have seen yet and came out Reserve Champion, and the season is young. This year is going to be good!

My young mare, Wishing Tree, the queen, came to check out the place to preview what the show life will be like. She came, she saw, she ate grass, she lunged, she trailered well, and most importantly, she behaved. Big, bright future!!

Jennifer Reynolds stepped up to the 2'3" on the famous, talented, good boy Flag is Flying. Not only did they jump around well and do a great job, she also got him to "under saddle" pretty well as an added bonus, AND they finished Reserve Champion. 🙌

Jaycee Fields' awesome horse, Risky Woods, was shown by Lily Gillette who did a stand up job with him. "Guinness" jumped like a BEAST. He seriously jumped his heart out. Reserve Champion of the 2'6" with plenty of scope for more.

Peyton came back with her beautiful, red-headed mare, Skinnydipper. STUNing girl. Her mare jumped around well and came out on top of the divison with Champion of the 2'6".
..

And to the barn family ❤️❤️ -- I seriously cannot express how awesome you all are. Looking forward to a great season! I would say we are already off to a good start.

The fleet is ready for the first outing of the year with a couple of veterans and many green beans. 🙌
