I'm so happy! Last week I got my new chute for hoof trimming. We used it for the first time last Saturday and it was amazing. The sides squeeze in to hold the sheep and then you can rotate them to bring their feet up towards you (and their back going towards the ground) and remove the grate that they were standing on to access their hooves. This takes all the stress off of my back and legs for hoof trimming. It is safer for them and safer for me and I can give them a better trim.

Meet Castper. He is a 2 month old ram lamb who broke his leg at about 3 weeks of age. It was his back left leg and the break was directly above his hock (knee). The vet was awesome and was able to cast his little leg and it healed beautifully. He had to remain in his cast for about 3 weeks. He has been cast free for about 2 weeks now and you can't tell that his back leg was ever broken to begin with. His current loves are running, jumping, and fighting with his mom and brother over grain.

Heads up everyone! We will be at the Paoli Mill Market this year. It's every Sunday from May through October! We will be there for opening weekend May 3rd from 9am to 1pm!

I'm so happy. This weekend we got (almost) all of the ewes and lambs out of the lambing barn. Everyone will stay in the loafing shed for a week or two while the mommas start drying up. I'm trying to get them to decrease their milk production before I wean their lambs. It decreases the incidences of mastitis and helps with udder comfort when the babies have been weaned.

Celeste is always the easiest one to pick out of the group. She doesn't want to eat from the hay feeders like the rest!

Peaches needs her mineral before she gets milked. I'm just glad I didn't have to chase her up and down the pasture to catch her. Usually we do a lap of the pasture then a run down the alley to the water troughs to take a sniff and make sure they're filled up and THEN she'll let me catch her. It's hilarious to watch a nine year old cow run and jump like a calf does when they play.

Just enjoying some lunch grain. Also anyone with a yellow head likes to steal milk. They stand behind the mom and that way when she goes to sniff who is eating she can't and sometimes she'll stay put and other times she'll move. If the lambs are behind her they can walk and eat at the same time, making it more difficult for the ewe to prevent the wrong lambs from eating. It's normally no big deal as long as the lambs are all about the same age and size. So I have one group of 3 weeks and older and a second group of 2 weeks and younger.
