We interrupt our Lower East Side programming to bring you a little something from Bryant Park! 🍂🍺

Yesterday, our friend Soo Ra brought together a very funny group of women for an afternoon in the park, and we were happy to help keep everyone fed + hydrated alongside 7TH STREET BURGER 🍺🍔

Smashburgers, Pumpkin Ale, female comedians and peak NYC Fall weather. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Cheers!

Five Boroughs is a b**r made for NYC - so we’re spending some time getting to know the places that make this city what it is. 🍻

And on the Lower East Side, that apparently includes a shop where you can trade used books for pickles. 📚🥒

Books for pickles. Pickles for sale. Very New York. No notes.

Touristy? Sure. Still worth it? Definitely.

Katz’s has been feeding the Lower East Side since 1888, with generations of New Yorkers (and plenty of visitors) lining up for those famously massive pastrami sandwiches.

Fun fact: during WWII, the owners sent food to their sons serving overseas - which inspired the now-famous “Send a Salami to Your Boy in the Army” slogan.

138 years later, the consistent line out front pretty much speaks for itself. 🥪

And stay tuned for the next stop on our Around the Five Boroughs Tour: Lower East Side. Cheers! 🍻

169 Bar has been around since 1916 and was once known as “the Bloody Bucket” - a nickname tied to its much rowdier days as an old school neighborhood watering hole.

More than a century later, it’s still wonderfully weird, with a leopard-print pool table, New Orleans influence, pickle martinis and, most importantly, Five Boroughs on the b**r list. 👀🍺

Stay tuned for more of our Around the Five Boroughs tour: Lower East Side.

132 years and still a very good reason to save room for dessert. 🇮🇹

Veniero’s has been holding down East 11th Street since 1894, and is still one of the East Village’s most iconic pastry shops. And we’re still leaving with cannoli. 🤌

Fun fact! Frank Sinatra was a fan too. His favorite thing was their sesame-covered Regina biscuit, which he apparently liked extra crunchy, almost burnt.

Blue & Gold has been keeping it no-frills since 1958. 🍻

The East Village dive was founded by Ukrainian immigrant Michael Roscishewsky Sr., with its name inspired by the blue + gold of the Ukrainian flag. And apparently, things were a little stricter back then: denim wasn’t allowed, and women originally couldn’t enter unaccompanied until about 1970. 👀

These days, the rules are looser. But the pool table, jukebox, cheap drinks and old-school neighborhood-bar energy remain.

There’s a LOT of history hiding inside John's of 12th Street 🍝👀

The East Village red-sauce joint opened in 1908, operated a speakeasy upstairs during Prohibition, and has one particularly wild piece of history still sitting in the dining room: that giant mound of candle wax.

The documented story says the tradition started with a candle lit on December 5, 1933, to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. But there’s also some local lore around the candles being used as a signal during the Prohibition years to let people know when it was safe to come in. Either way, there are a whole lot of stories buried under that wax. 🕯️

More than a century later, John’s is still serving old-school Italian-American classics plus a surprisingly extensive vegan menu.
