Thanks to past-BE Kiwanis member, Bill Markus, the B-E Kiwanis Club was presented with a $20,000 check at last week's Board meeting!
When the Hoogdal non-profit sold their Sedro-Wooley property, they divided the profits between us and the other local groups they have sponsored for many years.
The history of this generous donation from their Board of Directors is outlined below.
Thank YOU! We will put it to good use "for the Kids" of our community
"The Hoogdal Community Club, located north of Sedro-Woolley, was formed as a charitable corporation in 1945. Local families wanted to create a club that would provide recreation and promote community welfare.
The Hoogdal Schoolhouse on Grip Road was built in 1916 and utilized by the Sedro-Woolley School District. Eventually the school was no longer being actively used and the district sold the building to the club. The schoolhouse provided a great place for the community to meet.
Maintenance of the building was funded by membership dues and fund raising. As the decades passed, membership dwindled and it became difficult to keep the building in good repair.
In 2025, the members voted to dissolve the club and sell the schoolhouse. In 2026, the building was sold.
The Hoogdal Community Club is a non-profit 501(c) (3) corporation and all remaining funds and property are to be distributed to other 501(C) (3) corporations.
The club would like to distribute the funds to several charitable organizations in our local community. We appreciate your efforts to contribute to making Skagit County a great place to live and raise families.
