Blackberry Lemon Bread fans!!!! 💜

I found more frozen blackberries! I thought we were done for the season and had enjoyed all our wild blackberries on our homestead. I left plenty for the bears but had frozen some in bread batch sizes and stashed them everywhere. 😂 We have 3 freezers and I forgot to check one of them!

I’ll have blackberry lemon bread for the rest of the month!! 🎉🎉🎉

Did anyone see me at last week’s farmers market and notice I had a chicken? In a cat backpack? Yes, seriously.

A lady was walking around with her trying to find a home for her because she was moving and thought it was too hot for her in Arizona. This chicken is spoiled! She’s bougie. She’s been on a plane to Maine.

She came to her previous owner’s life via dropping from the sky! A hawk lost his grip on her. She’s a special girl.

I was enamored with her beauty and her feathered feet and couldn’t wait to bring her home. Google says she’s a Dark Brahma. She’s been eased into the homestead life with our 40+ chickens in two coops. I named her Francesca because I thought that sounded fancy enough for her.

Francesca, welcome to Mossy Branch Farm! We also have 4 baby chicks that someone hatched after hiding a clutch of eggs under the larger coop! And 23 teenage chicks that we incubated. They are 11 weeks old now. And the original 2 incubated chicks after we realized the incubator didn’t work well and needed replacing. Two survived it. They are now 12-13 weeks old and pretty large! One is a roo that has been practicing his crow for a couple weeks now and it’s hilarious.
We have 20+ chickens in the larger upper coop and 9 in the lower coop. That’s where Francesca lives now. 🩷

Blackberries are in on our homestead so that means blackberry lemon bread is on the menu! We have tons of wild blackberry bushes on our land and the bears love them, too! I do have to compete with them to get any berries but I pick at least a gallon once a week and leave the rest to them. 🐻❤️
Did you know how bears eat berries?
They LAY DOWN IN THE BUSHES haha and lean over and eat them. I see it as a Roman dude being fed grapes kind of thing.

Anyway, my BLACKBERRY LEMON BREAD is to die for! I am just going to say it - I think it’s as delicious as my Apple Fritter Bread (and that sells out quickly each week)!!

Not having a great day with my sourdough loaves! It seems my dough fridge has gone out and everything g over fermented and flowed out of its basket. I’m baking it anyway - and will be selling croutons next week! 😂

So at tomorrows Elizabethton Farmers Market I won’t have sourdough loaves but I will have plenty of focaccias, apple fritter bread, banana bread, blueberry lemon bread, several flavors of scones, and choc chip and caramel toffee cookies!
