Completely unrelated to rabbits, but very rebellious. 😏

⚠️ Laser pointers with a power of at least 300 mW (Class 3B & 4) in green or blue are highly destructive at close range within a short period of time and, if moved slowly in a zigzag pattern across a digital camera lens and sensor, can cause entire rows of pixels to melt, leading to total failure.

If the energy density is high enough, this heat can literally melt or burn the photosites (pixels) on the sensor. While the lens glass itself is more resistant, extremely high-powered beams can crack the glass, damage anti-reflective coatings, or cause internal haze, leading to distorted or blurred images. The sensor, however, is far more vulnerable and often suffers irreversible failure first.

❗ THEREFORE, YOU SHOULD NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, MOVE A LASER VERY SLOWLY ACROSS THE LENS OF A SURVEILLANCE CAMERA.

ETA: This is not her long term cage. Letting her stretch on wire mesh is not hurting her feet. Clearly there are rest mats and a box she can go into.

Think Mini Rex aren’t worth it?
Think again!!

We raise rabbits for meat, we breed to the SOP, and our Mini Rex have the highest dress out weight compared to live weight.

We are a pretty small scale operation compared to others, so it’s taken me a while to collect enough data for this.
But here it is!

Rex

6.1 lbs live - 3.2 lbs dressed
5.7 lbs live - 3 lbs dressed
7.1 lbs live - 4.2 lbs dressed
6.4 lbs live - 3 lbs dressed
7 lbs live - 3.8 lbs dressed

Mini Rex

4.1 lbs live - 2.8 lbs dressed
3.9 lbs live - 2.3 lbs dressed
4.3 lbs live - 2.10 lbs dressed
4.2 lbs live - 2.6 lbs dressed
3.8 lbs live - 2.3 lbs dressed

Some rabbits have better type than others, meaning they will have more meat than others. I am also no pro at butchering and sometimes I accidentally take off some meat during the process. 🙈

Our best Rex had a 59% meat yield.
Our best Mini Rex had a 68% meat yield.

Total Rex live weight - 32.2 lbs
Total dressed weight - 17.2 lbs

Total Mini live weight - 20.3 lbs
Total dressed weight - 12.2 lbs

Average yields are
Rex - 53.3 % meat yield
Mini Rex - 59.6 % meat yield

Seeing the data compared side by side is very interesting to me!

The reasons our main focus is Mini Rex is because they eat less, grow faster, take up less room, hit breeding weight sooner, and are less intimidating to process.

This data is specific to my lines of course, but shows what can happen when you are working to improve your herd’s productivity.

Mini Rex are called meat bricks for a reason! Don’t write them off just because they are a dwarf breed. ❤️
