Time for my annual locally grown veggie PSA post.
TLDR - any tomatoes you are buying from a "Farm Store" now are not grown locally - they are shipped in.
It's summer - kids are out of school and everyone is ready for a tomato sandwich and juicy peaches. I see posts pop up on FB and Nextdoor often about where can I find "fresh from the garden", "locally grown" etc. right now.
If anyone (I don't care if it's a folding table in their front yard) is selling ripe tomatoes (other than maybe some cherry tomatoes) or peaches - they did not grow them.
Nobody around here grew them.
They probably bought them at Dekalb Farmer's Market and those are shipped in from maybe south GA, but also out of state.
Tomatoes won't be ready until late June (maybe earlier this year since it was a warm spring)
Peaches come from our neighbors in the north (Ellijay area) and won't be ready for a few weeks at least.
Late June - early July is when summer produce REALLY is locally grown in Canton, Ball Ground, Jasper, Woodstock, etc.
OK - off my soapbox now.
