Our barn cat Haus taking a little break from his hunt in the cover crop today. Rolling back and forth in the dirt living his best life and giving me sweet looks while I harvested mint. He isn’t too fond of extra petting but you wouldn’t guess it from that sweet face. He would prefer to rub against your legs practically tripping you in the process of trying to escape. He’s a great hunter though and loves to present us with his accomplishments.

It was a very productive and physically challenging week! Josh and I managed to get two high tunnels of heirloom tomatoes planted out and a portion of our winter squash is in the ground. Beautiful weather is certainly helping move things right along! Next up cucumbers, lettuce and more squash!!

We have been working on a number of projects during this spell of beautiful weather. Garlic weeding is still in progress. The garlic beds aren’t terribly overloaded with weeds thanks to some early flame weeding. A bit of hand weeding is still needed though. You can certainly tell which bed is complete here. We are backing off on our potato production this season but planted one long row along with onions, sunchokes and some brassicas.

We propagated and planted some young rosemary plants in our yard several years ago. Today it is a beautiful edible hedge. The bees and hummingbirds love to feed on the flowers this time of year and bunnies like hiding underneath. The flowers create a great punch in a fresh salad! Seems like time to create another hedge somewhere on the property!

We delivered a load of leeks and kale to our good friends at Toledo Neighbors Program this morning. It is always impressive to tour their garden and facility and see all they are up to! We love to see all the ways the neighbors are getting involved and helping others. Such a positive addition to the community!

Things have been a bit drippy around here but we have managed to prune our fruit trees both outside and inside. It appears our orange trees are going to set a lot of fruit this season. We may have to thin some flowers and try making some perfume! We can’t wait for the smell of orange blossoms to fill the greenhouse!
