The girls are pumping out eggs like the laying machines they are! I’m still obsessed with all the greens. It’s incredible how many shades there can be. Speckled, heavy bloom, camo, and everything from aqua to sage to deep khaki green. I lined the up with my shades of blue, added in a white for comparison, and set them next to all the shades of brown I currently have. What’s crazy is, this isn’t all the colors. 50+ hens and a full rainbow!

Y’all, please send all your healing energy to my sweet Alfredo. I’m not exactly sure what’s wrong but I know it’s not good. He’s in sick bay (after sleeping in the house with me last night) and I’m sadly preparing for the worst. He’s getting the best care I can give without fully knowing what’s wrong in hopes that I can save him. If you’ve been around a minute, you know he’s my favorite. We appreciate all the love and good vibes you can send his way in hopes of a speedy and full recovery.

A little bit of beauty in a very very cold world.

If you saw my stories, you know my area got hit hard with ice which has lead to hundreds of downed trees and thousands without power - and that’s just in my county. I only lost power for about 10 hours, but have been without heat (besides my fireplace and a couple of small space heaters) since Friday because the propane company can’t get here. (I didn’t realize how low I was until everyone was scrambling to fill their tanks).

I’m ok, I’m just cold - and very tired of being cold. I’m bringing water to the chickens every couple of hours because my heated waterers aren’t working (probably an electrical issue). I’m ready for spring.

But this egg. It made me smile. My chickens must know I needed a boost today to remind me there is beauty everywhere.

How are y’all doing? Those up north with wicked low temps - you ok??
