I need to get this on video but the ducks simply adore Papa Goose. They literally follow him around like goslings and if he alerts at anything, they all get up and run behind him. Sometimes they follow so closely behind him that he will turn around and nip at them to take a step back šŸ˜‚ I feel like he is both proud and exasperated all at once.

For some unknown reason I never felt a pull to have children. As a little girl, I did not play with baby dolls or dream of being a mother. After Jordan and I got married, we always said we would discuss having children ā€œnext yearā€ and then next year came and we said ā€œmaybe two more years.ā€ Two more years came and we thought maybe 5 more years. After all of those years passed, we both got pretty honest with each other about the fact that we really just didn’t want kids. We were both happy with that choice and still are to this day.

There was never an event in my life (or Jordan’s) that made us decide not to have kids. There was never a moment where I said ā€œoh this definitely isn’t for me.ā€ I think children are wonderful and precious and I genuinely adore my identity as being a universal ā€œfun auntā€ or ā€œbig sister.ā€ I will say that since I was a little bitty thing I was always very nurturing. In a lot of ways it has always been curious that I just never felt wired for kiddos.

And then today…

I bought a bedside bassinet off of FB marketplace….……for my goose……….Shortly after purchasing a custom wheelchair for her. I made sure Leo could find his dinner. I said my special original goodnight poems to my other animals.

And it clicked….

I never wanted children because the Universe/God/a higher power/ whoever is out there had something else entirely in store for me….and boy does it just keep getting weirder by the day.

Wouldn’t trade it for anything! šŸ¤£šŸ‘šŸŖæ

Picture of these two weirdos as evidence.

✨Baby Goose updates✨I’m exhausted lately so I haven’t had the energy to type out a ton of things BUT it’s safe to say she’s living her best life. She’s made HUGE progress with magnawave therapy. She’s gained a lot of weight and no longer feels like a skeleton. She has beautiful, bright orange coloring in her beak. She is starting to take steps towards walking again. She loves ā€œflyingā€ - aka flapping her wings aggressively while we pick her up. She spends about half of her time outside and half inside. When she is outside, she has a little playpen she is in to keep the others from bothering her. She appreciates the fact that she gets to be with the others while still having her own peas and water bowl.

Currently, we are still rehabbing those little legs! We’re working to help her gain strength and correct the posture she keeps her legs in. This is one of my fave pictures but, as you can see, she does hold her legs in the correct position.

I am very excited because I found a man who prints custom wheel chairs and we’re ordering one tomorrow! That will allow her to walk and will allow us to implement more PT strategies for her legs. I have been lucky to get a lot of guidance about how to correct her posture so I’m hoping that works.

We haven’t even had her for a full two months but it already feels like a lifetime! We wouldn’t trade her for anything šŸŖ暟’–šŸŖæ

They’re baaaaaack (temporarily) and I made a poor choice which I will share at the end of this message.

If you all remember, we helped Cotton Branch Refuge Project rehome pigs from a terrible hoarding case in November of 2024. Lexi Worth adopted three of those piggies. She and her family are on vacation and we enthusiastically agreed to watch mama pig and her three babies for two weeks. We are so happy to see that the piggies are just THRIVING with Lexi and her fam. They are so sweet and they look amazing. We are loving getting to spend time with them again.

Now for the ā€œfunnyā€ part. šŸ˜‘

We decided to spoil the little pigs by giving them the entire back pasture. It is filled with ragweed and other weeds that pigs LOVE to chow down on. I wish our big pigs could hang out back there but the fences aren’t secure enough to hold them and they prefer doing whatever they want…. Which is not staying in fences.

Something you really don’t need to know about me (but I will tell you anyways), is that I used to be *very* allergic to ragweed. When we moved to the farm, I was so inundated with ragweed that my ragweed allergies went away and I no longer needed my inhaler or allergy meds. No runny nose. No sniffles. No asthma….so I thought.

I went to visit with the little pigs this morning and decided to walk around in their pasture which is filled with ragweed. Correction. It is filled with giant ragweed that comes up to my thigh.

About 20 minutes after doing this, I started to get extremely dizzy and light headed. My breathing wasn’t great. I had a headache.

I thought to myself, surely this isn’t the ragweed. I don’t have ragweed allergies anymore so SURELY this isn’t the ragweed. I’m not sneezing so it can’t be that.

Baby Goose kept me up a lot last night so I tried to convince myself that maybe I was just really tired. ((Side quest story: Baby Goose is starting to be able to walk. We are incredibly excited about this. It’s a huge deal. Unfortunately for us all, sleeping in her chair is not as good as sleeping in our bed. Do you know how many times I had to reposition Baby Goose back in her chair last night? No? Me either because I was half asleep while doing it but it was at least 5 times)).

Back to our regularly scheduled story: I went back inside. I was sure that this was the end for me. I took an Allegra and other random meds and decided to go back to sleep. Prior to going back to sleep, I texted my little sister and made her promise to take over the farm and make sure all of my animals were safe. My sister is no stranger to me deciding I am dying so she just agreed to appease me. I went back to sleep.

I woke up after an hour, it was worse. I wanted to take a Benadryl but they knock me out cold for hours. I had big plans of getting better after my nap Benadryl was going to ruin those plans. I took another Allegra and went back to sleep.

*For some unexplainable reason I was still trying to convince myself that this wasn’t the ragweed.*

I slept longer. I woke up. It was worse.

But again, I told myself this wasn’t the ragweed.

At this point, Jordan was like-too bad, you’re taking a Benadryl.

I took the Benadryl………and what do you know, it WAS the ragweed. I am currently mostly better but Baby Goose and I are falling asleep as we type this.

Long story short, Jordan will be the one going in the little pigs’ pasture and I will be digging my inhaler out of the bathroom drawer.

Being stubborn today has really not served me well.

Our week has been long but the adorable happy cherry on top is that we are getting to babysit some very special babies who have stayed at our farm before. Before I post videos, any guesses on who is taking a summer vacay at our farm?

Guys. I’m horrified. I recently learned some things about a farm animal sanctuary and I am beside myself. We may make a statement later on but, for now, I need some time to gather my thoughts. Life lesson from today- be careful about who you trust 😳

Ohhh myyyyy GOODNESS!!!! Blossom did a little modified version of walking. She flaps her wings and does this little doggie paddle scoot/walk forward. This might not seem like a big deal but it is a HUGE milestone. She has gone from not even trying to move a few weeks ago, to actively trying to walk. We have been working hard with her on nutrition and physical therapy but I think Magnawave has sped up the process significantly. I’m confident that she will walk in the future but I’m not fully sure what that walk will look like. Regardless, I’m so glad that we didn’t give up on that little cutie pie. She is worth it. ā¤ļøšŸŖæā¤ļøšŸŖæ

The Baby Goose x Edward photo dump that EVERYONE needs to see on their Friday. Also, if these two can get along, I’m going to need humanity to do better.
