In 2008 and 2009, during the worst economy since the Great Depression, Ohio and the entire nation was suffering. In Dayton, home of Buckeye Vodka, numerous businesses suffered and plants closed. Seeking to be a part of the solution, brother-in-law Tom Rambasek, brothers Jim and Chris Finke, and good friend and CFO Marty Clarke founded Crystal Spirits, LLC and developed the Buckeye Vodka brand from inception to finished product. Our dreams were realized in 2011, when we first brought Buckeye Vodka to market. We believe in the old adage ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going,' and we’re committed to making a difference by investing locally to build a business that creates jobs and make a positive contribution to our local, state, and national economy. I’m always looking for the best local finds, and Buckeye Vodka is one I was genuinely excited to discover.

It’s family owned and made in Dayton, and once I learned more about how it’s made, I appreciated it even more.

They use corn from Ohio farmers and distill it 10 times, and you can tell there’s a lot of intention behind the process and the quality of what ends up in the bottle.

Naturally, I decided to use it in one of my favorite comfort meals: vodka pasta.

Vodka actually helps bring out some of the flavors in the tomatoes while helping create that rich, smooth sauce that makes vodka pasta so good.

I put my own spin on mine, and Buckeye Vodka was perfect for it.

I love finding something local that’s really well made and that I can use in so many different ways.
