What a great night at the Fernbrook Farms CSA BBQ! Our beef was featured on the menu and made into delicious sliders. Throughout the night we hung out with great people, ate great food, talked about our farm and even sold some beef once people got a taste of those sliders!

Our October employee of the month is Mary!
Mary is such a good mother to her calves, that after having her first one, she earned herself the nickname “Scary Mary”… she’s a protective mama for sure! - well except that one time that we had to bring her calf inside in the middle of the night during torrential downpours because she decided to leave him out of the barn in a mud puddle while she stayed inside and dry. But she’s come a long way since then! Besides the occasional head-butt every now and then to let you know how she really feels, Mary is much more trusting of us with her calves these days. We can always count on her to have some of our most beautiful and strongest calves, seriously the girl’s got great genes! All jokes aside, Mary really is a sweetie, she can just be a tad bit spicy when she doesn’t get her way- but can’t we all!

We want to give the biggest happy birthday to the man behind the entire operation. To the hardest working man we know! To the man who will work through the night to make sure hay gets picked up before a storm, to the man who will check the cows in the middle of the night knowing one might calve soon, and to the man who would find a way to get a shirt even if he didn’t have one on his own back to give. Those of you who know Doug know just how great he is. Happy birthday Doug/ Dad/ Pops, we love you!!!

Our September employee of the month is Edna!
Aka Shmoo, Shmooey, Shmooey Louie, and Edna the Tank.
In 2018, Edna became the first calf born on this farm since 1996!
Edna’s favorite things are food, and well, just food really (hence where the tank nickname came from…)
If you see a cow eating at the trough with her head in the air to chew, that’s our girl Shmoo!
Besides reliably being the first one at the trough for meal times, Edna has always been a sweetheart. She’s a friendly cow, and a great mother!!
We love you, Edna!!
