We grew up in a time when “because I said so” was the end of the discussion.

No screaming in the aisles.
No negotiating in public.
And no chance of acting wild if you wanted dessert after dinner.

One look from Mom could stop a tantrum faster than anything.

We respected our parents.
We respected adults.
And deep down, we knew those lessons were preparing us for real life.

Different times.
Stronger values.
And somehow, those old grocery store trips taught us more than school ever did about respect, manners, and consequences.

Back then, nobody cared about “designer labels.”

If your clothes fit, survived recess, and came from the clearance rack…
you were doing just fine.

Our moms could stretch a dollar like it was magic.
One good pair of shoes had to last the whole school year.
And somehow, we still felt rich with comic books, bikes, and Saturday morning cartoons.

Funny thing is, we weren’t trying to impress strangers.
We were too busy living real life.

Those simple days built a generation that learned gratitude, resilience, and how to laugh at ourselves.

And honestly, those crooked haircuts, tube socks, and hand-me-downs still look pretty good in the memories.
