Homestead Preserves Grow local, sell local. Encouraging people to support their local farmers. Justine Johnson of M-J Farms is a 4th generation farmer.

The family farm primarily focuses on corn and soybeans but during the summer Justine helps out in her family's garden. Hating to see good produce go to waste, Justine started to tinker around with canning. As her husband, Brett, assists with harvest and the farmer's market, he has started to get a green thumb himself. Example of canned products we sell at the farmer's market are Jams, Pickles, Relishes, and pie fillings. Each year we try adding a new product as time and mother nature allows us.

We did not set up at the market this a.m. due to weather. Feel free to message or email if you need a restock and I can set up a meet up time. Otherwise, I'll see everyone next week!

I hope everyone had a great day at the farmer's market and trains, planes, and automobiles today! Traffic was kind of slow for me, so i decided to put some of that extra energy to cooking up some pumpkins 🎃. I can't wait to use some of the puree in my famous pumpkin pie 😍, and of course, I'm using my favorite olive oil from A Spotted Apron! Kim's butter infused olive oil goes great with everything.

Harvest is looking like it's right around the corner. Here are some great tips and reminders with the farm machinery coming out of the sheds and hitting the roads. Be safe out there and please be patient.

The Slow Moving Vehicle emblem means the farm equipment travels at a slow speed.

Tips for Motorists:
⚠️Pay attention and do not drive distracted.
⚠️Slow down when encountering slow moving vehicles. Flashing amber lights mean “CAUTION!”.
⚠️Pass with extreme caution.
⚠️Allow extra room when following farm equipment.
⚠️It is illegal to pass in a no passing zone or within 100 feet of an intersection.
⚠️Be patient. A farmer cannot always move over to let motorists pass.
⚠️If you cannot see the driver, the driver cannot see you. Farm machinery operators may not be able to see you because of the large equipment or a load can block part of their rear view.

Good morning everyone! I was going to do a live feed but the customers are flowing in on this beautiful morning. I just wanted to stay out of the way for the shoppers. The garden is done, besides the few cucumber plants left. But the apple trees should be ready soon! I just love the beginning of the change over to fall. 🥰

Good morning everyone! I am sad to say we won't be setting up today. Our girls had a rough night of sleep which is causing Brett and I to be running on fumes today. We hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoy a beautiful day at the Geneseo Farmer's Market. Hope to see you next weekend!

What do you do on rain days when the kids are napping/ having quiet time? For us we hurry up and snap up some green beans and get them in the canner! Nothing like kids wanting to push all the buttons on your pressure canner lol 😊🤷‍♀️

Had to bust out the old rain boots to pick the garden today! So far we have had about 3" rain this week. Had to prop back up 1 tomato plant, 5 pepper plants, and re-secure the fence the green beans are on.

We will not be setting up tomorrow at the Geneseo Farmer's Market. With the amount of severe weather we had this week, and more to come tomorrow morning, we are playing it safe and just staying home.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Oh, and please share my page! Apparently to do a live feed the page needs 100 followers and I'm only 1 follower away from it. So please share and click the follow button. 😀
