We now have a lot more farm animals, a greenhouse and even a small business making goat milk soaps.

A mama bird decided to build a nest suspended about a foot from the ground and right into a bunch of long grass by our pond. How the nest and eggs have survived the wind and storms lately I have no idea!

We did have a pair of killdeer that have been around the pond since spring and I wonder if these are their babies. Killdeer are known to build their nests horrible spots.

Our Garlic Scapes are ready for picking! If you have any recipes to use up garlic scapes let me know. We have a ton of them!

Did you know that you should leave at least one scape on the plant as an indicator for when your garlic is ready to pick! When the scape uncurls and stands straight up you garlic is ready. 🧄

You can also let a few scapes go to seed for a never ending supply of garlic! It takes 3 years to produce a garlic bulb but we started this a few years ago and now have an abundance of garlic each year!

First fruit of the season! ☀️ 🫐

Kenley and I snacked on some sweet honeyberries after watering the garden tonight.

We would have had more berries but our escape artist goats found the honeyberry bushes and had a snack about 2 weeks ago.

Our goats were taking advantage of the gate being left open and eating up some dandelions.

We were finally able to spend some time in our garden this afternoon. ☀️

I cut back last years asparagus stalks to reveal that this years are looking great. We should have an abundance of fresh asparagus to eat in just a few days!

Our garlic looks great and is coming in nicely. This garlic came from some that I let go to seed two years ago. We have two beds full of garlic! 🧄

I was also happy to see that the 8 blackberry plants that I dug up last fall from my grandpa’s land in tomahawk made it through the winter. I spent a lot of time with my grandpa up at his land as a child and our family sold the last of the land last fall. It will be neat to see these berries grow and thrive and know that I have a little part of that land here on our farm.

A day in the life of our farm dogs captured on our Ring camera… Ollie was minding his own business when our geese decided they didn’t want him to be by the chicken coop. Our farm boss, Addie jumped right in to action and came to save the day. Ollie couldn’t be outdone by his sister so he had to save face. Mattis, who came from show dog blood lines and isn’t real keen on the farm dog life, made absolutely no effort to assist in the goose incident and decided to roll on the ground.

It may be what we like to call “mud season” in Wisconsin but we are busy getting all of our goat milk lotions and soaps made up with spring and summer scents!
