According to an old weather saying, when the crescent Moon’s “horns” appear especially sharp and well defined, rain may be on the way the following day. 🌧️

Long before weather apps and radar, people watched the Moon, clouds, animals, and winds for clues about changing weather.

🍂 Millions of dragonflies are on the move! 🐉

Each fall, enormous numbers of dragonflies migrate south across North America—some traveling hundreds or even thousands of miles toward Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Species like the Common Green Darner, Black Saddlebags, and Wandering Glider are among the long-distance travelers making this remarkable seasonal journey. And unlike monarch butterflies, dragonfly migration often happens almost unnoticed overhead.

🌾 An Old September Tradition: Harvest Home

For generations, farming communities marked the end of the grain harvest with a celebration known as Harvest Home. Once the final sheaf was brought in from the fields, families, neighbors, and farm workers would gather for food, music, dancing, and thanksgiving for another successful harvest.

There was no single date for Harvest Home—it came whenever the harvest was safely gathered, often in late summer or September.

It was a simple tradition rooted in gratitude, community, and the changing of the seasons.
