Last chick pick up of the year for the Rubicon crew, unless one of us strikes up a fall date.

Anyway, another 50 turkey poults arrived at the farm today to satisfy our customers who prefer a smaller size Thanksgiving turkey.

Thanksgiving turkey reservations are live!

Howdy!

It is hard to believe that it is already that time of year, but the turkeys are on pasture and are ready to be reserved for your holiday festivities.

This year, we have limited availability of a variety of turkey sizing. As in the past, we can't guarantee the exact weight, of course, but try to meet you where you'd like to be as far as size and budget. That said, we expect to have turkeys ranging from 8 LB to as much as 32 LB!

Turkeys will be available raw, unfrozen for pickup at the farm the week of Thanksgiving.

As always, our poultry are pasture-raised, soy-free, and GMO-free to ensure nutrient density and cleanliness for your home, health, and family.

We've all heard it - "fresh, never frozen" - but what does "fresh" really mean today?

Did you know that the term "fresh" is regulated in poultry labeling?

The regulatory language says nothing about time or distance, only that poultry labeled "fresh" must have never had a core temperature below 26°F. Why 26°F? Well, it doesn't specify. The issue in our minds is not the specific requirement, but that the requirement does not match your expectations. If muscle is ~70% water, and water freezes at 32°F, then poultry labeled "fresh" is neither as "fresh" or as "never frozen" as you, the customer, expect.

Our poultry products cannot be labeled "fresh".

The big corporations can do it for chicken that was slaughtered 1000 miles away 10 days ago, but transported to you in refrigerated equipment maintaining a (frozen) core temperature above 24°F (the reg actually says 26°F +/- 2°, which is mathematically stupid because that is interpreted in practice as 24°F).
